Conditions remain favorable for funnel cloud formation through this upcoming week in T&T. Funnel clouds are common and so are waterspouts, but when waterspouts move onshore/funnel clouds (and/or associated column of air) touchdown on land - tornadoes are fairly rare for T&T.

Lastly, this week is a bit “tornado-y” given the atmospheric set up with Tropical Storm Jerry moving (well) north of us later this week. So keep your eyes on the skies, especially with those late-morning through afternoon thunderstorms. We don’t have an official tornado season,

I remember the TTMS going to war with me in 2019 for calling the Port of Spain tornado a tornado. Oh the revisionist history. 2019: https://t.co/NxRBCEQS4j Today: https://t.co/T5VsHCGrSU

Thankfully, this was another “weak”tornado, likely at EF-0 strength (winds @ 105-137 km/h) mainly in the small vortices. And while I liked having the tornado captured from every angle, when the skies fill with galvanized sheets, maybe go inside? https://t.co/cc2Zkf7sCw

Tornadoes are among the most violent atmospheric storms we experience and they are fairly uncommon in Trinidad and Tobago.

Though we never saw a funnel touch down, there were multiple, short-lived vortices that developed just before roofs were ripped up.

I’ve poured over every angle of this tornado (and waterspout) that was captured from Tuesday afternoon and a couple of interesting findings: - A waterspout moved onshore at The Towers, which then became a tornado (the opposite was reported yesterday) https://t.co/bNYAFfXdf1

Trinidad was hit by a tornado on Tuesday. 12 structures affected. Power out for 200 homes. Tornadoes are uncommon for T&T, but certainly not unheard of. In fact, since 2019, this would be Trinidad’s seventh confirmed tornado. https://t.co/bNYAFfXdf1

If #Jerry does end up going through the Leeward/Virgin Islands like HAFS suggests, even if somewhat tilted/disorganized due to shear, it could be a pretty big flood threat on some of these islands. Persistent downshear convection may lead to heavy thunderstorms to the south and

Dearest T&T Media Houses, A funnel cloud is a funnel-shaped cloud of condensed water droplets, associated with a rotating column of wind and extending from the base of a cloud. It doesn’t touch the ground, and such, there is no damage associated with it. If a funnel cloud, or
