Pay transparency isn’t as simple as sharing each person's pay. Without the how or why behind pay decisions, this would lead to confusion and panic. Effective pay transparency programs share how pay decisions are made, and surface anonymized data on pay like ranges & peer median.

You can’t manage what you don’t measure. Job levels, roles, pay rates are key to competitive comp against the market. Without a system, your company is subject to influences that have zero to do with your business. To effectively manage comp, you need a system to measure it by.

Reminder: there is no rule that says you must pay someone X amount of money. Compensation is a trade of money for skills and time. How your company values those skills and time is what you need to determine as a compensation practitioner. #compensation #comptech #technology.

“Don’t be penny-wise and pound-foolish.” Losing your remaining talent will cost even more in recruiting and lost historical knowledge. Invest in your people and systems that scale them.

If you aren’t prepared, do the work. The avg promo increase is 10% & the avg merit increase is ~4%. Do the math & expect a higher % of promos than prior years. You aren't giving it away; those remaining will HAVE to step up. There’s the same amount of work, just less people.

Hopefully as part of your cuts you created a budget for this. The people who remain are likely demoralized, and about to take on the work of all those who left. They will leave if not recognized.
