I’d like to nominate #15 at Park Mammoth GC for State Golf Hole of Kentucky. It’s look and feel encapsulates a blend of Kentucky’s topography - pulling in Appalachia, rolling terrain, and prairie grassland. It’s a public golf hole. And while in this state we like our blue bloods

The reason this is an easy answer - more undulation vs less for greens - is that more heavily contoured greens make golf infinitely more interesting. Especially if you can park the “sport” mentality (equals score) and substitute “game” mentality (equals interest/fun). Not easy.

My favorite take on why today’s PGA Tour fields are supposedly so much deeper than when Tiger or Jack played, is the superior athleticism…

Historians should note this as the NCAA issuing the death penalty to academic honor codes.

Times like this make it fun to reminisce that in 2013 the NCAA “vacated” 21 Notre Dame wins because after the school discovered five players had received impermissible academic help from another student on their writing of papers, they retroactively failed the players in that.

The NCAA says there were sufficient grounds for a multiyear postseason ban. "However, the panel determined that a postseason ban would unfairly penalize student-athletes for the actions of coaches and staff who are no longer associated with the Michigan football program.".

The entry to #14 green at Connemara. A little guy hole (tops out at 133 yards) tucked into some cut rock. Yes, it’s landscaped and heavy-handed on the touches, but yes, it’s also charming and fun.

This is the way in our state if a course can do it.

This Kentucky golf course began a small conversion of bentgrass fairways to zoysia this spring before a planned complete conversion in 2026. This summer provided conditions to show how these grasses can differ during a tough summer.

Paired with a very nice older couple who insists on putting with the pin in. Tough one for me.

Congratulations sports leagues, gambling media partners, and society at-large. We did it. We got to the point where this communication was not only conceivable, but apparently necessary.

We feel strongly that there is no place for betting on Little League games.

#3 at Danville CC is a 527 yard par 5 with enough squeeze to put some anxiety in the drive. OB sits right and the driving range left, with about 70 yards between, less than half of that fairway. The second shot plays slightly blind over the crest of a hill along a cornfield on

The condition of Kentucky golf courses always teeters this time of year. Fair to say it’s a little worse than usual out there people?. Edit addition: I mean to say the weather has made it even tougher than usual.

I really think Brian is going to be known and liked by more GCA followers very very quickly. Check out this podcast, Park Mammoth, and now Great Dunes.

We had a great conversation with Al Lunsford and @joepassov about our work on Walter Travis's Great Dunes Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia. Give it a listen and a share!.

The “new” 9th at Keene Run is controversial amongst the membership, but count me among the fans.

What’s your take on the cluster of trees sitting in the middle of the fairway on #17 at Cypress Point?. *other than “let me play it and I will tell you” 😂

South Bend Country Club…steeped in history, great condition, and hilly terrain. Byron Nelson, Walter Hagen,Tommy Armour, and Chick Evans won Western Ams here. Knute Rockne and of course many other Notre Dame brass have been members. The slick tilted greens are firm underfoot
