With Seattle Public Schools headlining the Warped Tour of starved out school districts, I do want to give a shout out to C89.5 for being an incredibly great hype station for my drives to Olympia, to interviews, and to canvassing.

Tired: Won a Magnuson award from Washington Democrats Wired: Realizing it was a participation trophy and you're a Millennial Fired (up): Being free to engage your community authentically, feeling solidarity with others let down by the institutions you dedicated yourself to.

Oh! Also I wrote a letter to my MOC - who was on this list - to express that this was a profound betrayal. If your MOC voted for this, regardless of party, please ask them who/which 501c3s are so scary that they need to be destroyed by an authoritarian fascist.

To be clear: an election just happened and the **only** people who will remember this by next (?) election will be the people who work in nonprofit spaces and who were terrified, hurt, and betrayed by our last line of defense.🙋‍♀️

The incoming Trump administration is on the verge of being handed a gift that it could use to shut down non-profits that work against its right-wing agenda. Why are Democrats helping them when civil rights groups are sounding the alarm? https://t.co/ASTM6KPmhl

We really do need this. It's lonely, it's miserable, and it makes you feel like everything you care about will get ground up to the tune of silence. And guess what? That's why you should: because you actually care about something besides ego or a career. (*points to mirror*)

The temptation rn is to disengage from politics. Fuck that. We need young people running for school board, for local office, for county and state party chairs. We don't get anything we don't fight for and giving up is not an option.

This actually happens a lot. The lack of focus on the administrative side of schools on the policy side is a really unspoken and deleterious problem in public education. Hopefully that has a chance to matter.

It is not a far stretch to see how a gutted IRS run by a loyalist would categorize a nonprofit who serves immigrants, and/or Muslims, and/or LGBTQ+ people. So please if your MOC voted for this bill: ask them why.

Furthermore, to really impress to the WA MOCs who voted for this: in WA state, many conservatives pinned the WA bill re: emergency shelters for youth who are LGBTQ+ and/or needing an abortion, and who ran away from home, as "kidnapping." They should have seen why this mattered.

When I was a teacher, the students I served were served far less by the social services of the politicians who claimed to welcome them and far more by nonprofits like the IRC, Jewish Community Services, Mosques, etc. These groups are not safe with this administration.

But then again, you don't have to be a genius to be in Congress. Just rich. 🤷‍♀️

The reason why some of the kids at your schools are fed and clothed is because of the nonprofits that also serve community members that are already stigmatized. It doesn't take a "super genius" to see how this law will be weaponized.

One small example: in my community, which has a huge refugee resettlement hub, a lot of social services like casework for refugees, food, shelter, healthcare, etc are run through religiously affiliated nonprofits. Muslim orgs will be targeted- but so will Jewish and Catholic ones

I'm deeply worried because our society has done so little to combat Islamophobia, including internally and including on the left, that we may well be sending a green light for anyone to stifle work that any Muslim nonprofit community organization does.

I feel worried and betrayed because the nonprofit world is already hard, and this is making it even more difficult.

I say this because I am involved with a number of secular/atheist/Humanist nonprofits, and I care deeply about my religious neighbors who will be targeted most by this bill, particularly Muslim neighbors who are providing important work in my local community.

I am really raw about this though. And I do feel betrayed. If your MOC voted for this, please ask them **who** they think could be more scary than an administration that will enact this with zero transparency or accountability. https://t.co/IczgFMAz9U?

Dozens of Democrats voted in favor of a bill that would give the Treasury secretary power to designate nonprofits "terrorist supporting organizations."

Kim Schrier was on this list. I'm not surprised, just bitterly disappointed and especially with all of the progressive institutions that failed to hold our electeds accountable. I swear your local school board members are held to a higher standard.
