The annual Perseids meteor shower is peaking right now. The weather will work out fine for viewing in Northern California, but the moon phase (~88% full) means the sky may be too bright to see the full affect.

A busy vacation week (+) is just about over!. Did some local exploring, spent lots of time with our new kitten and finally (after almost 4 years!) spent a few days back in Buffalo catching up with friends from my last station. See you back on @kcranews tomorrow

Our camera on top of the Sutter buttes has a great view of isolated thunderstorms in Glenn County this evening. Storms are more than 60 miles from the camera tower!

A benefit to a gloomy July for the Bay Area: spring-like fuel moisture. This graph is specifically for the Santa Cruz Mountains.
While some may be pining for a warm summer day, the cool weather has helped slow fire season. The fuel moisture is above normal for this time of year.

Sacramento's highest temperature so far this year is 102° (5/30, 5/31 & 7/11). Through July, only 9 other years since 1941 have had a peak temperature of 102° or less. 7 of those 9 years had hotter days in either August or September. @kcranews

July 2025 was the coolest July in more than 20 years for Sacramento, Marysville and Modesto!. That's based on the monthly average temperature (average of all of the highs and lows for 31 days).

The @kcranews schedule is a little different with today’s NFL Hall of Fame Game!. We just wrapped a special 3 o’clock newscast. (Zero fun, can you tell? 😉). We’ll be back from 5-6, then after the game around 8. Our 10 & 11 shows will go on as usual.

Nice weekend ahead with temperatures near normal on Saturday, then a little cooler with a breeze Sunday. That bubble of heat isn't far away though. Signs point to it eventually making a visit to NorCal next week. See you at *3* on KCRA

No major damage to the US coast, but Tsunami Advisories remain in effect for the West Coast. Waves reached Hawaii just after 10pm PDT and the continental US after midnight last night.

Low tide for the Northern California coast is between 9 & 10 pm tonight. What's left of the Pacific tsunami Is expected to arrive between midnight and 1 am. SF wave height expected to be less than 1 foot. Current could still be powerful.

The California coast has been elevated to a TSUNAMI ADVISORY. Take steps to get away from the immediate coast!!. Estimated arrival time around Monterrey is 12:15 am Wednesday.

Wednesday could start with some *early morning* thunder & downpours above Hwy 49 on the West Slope of the Sierra. A second round of storms will build up over Tahoe in the afternoon. Be ready for quick changes in the weather in these areas.
