Actually, I'm going to say this is applicable to any sized business. It's overwhelming at best, damaging at worst.
Whoever gave small businesses the advice to email their database more than once a day is doing them a huge disservice*. No one needs 3 emails in 24 hours about your 'AMAZING SALE', trust me. It just feels odd. *webinar / event changes or urgent updates, I can forgive.
