On July 22, a judge barred RealT from collecting rent or evicting tenants as part of Detroit's nuisance abatement lawsuit. That same day, RealT told investors it had renovated 14 (+2 more later) Detroit homes and raised rents. I visited all 16. Here’s what I found 🧵

Have seen all sorts of wild ways speculators cause harm, but this one left me speechless -- buying 100s of properties without rly knowing Detroit, anonymous investors, blight tickets, black mold and no maintenance, eviction notices -- and then you throw crypto into the mix.

Logging into this site real quick to quickly share my latest article a company that tokenizes properties in Detroit by the hundreds, and sells the pieces to foreign investors, often in cryptocurrency. Tenants are the guinea pigs.
