After an extended break from Twitter - I'm back. Here is my latest piece for the @M_Star_Online on why socialists need to stay in the Labour Party https://t.co/DVpAxjIIKD

WHEN knight of the realm Sir Keir Starmer finalised his front-bench team, many of the fears of Labour’s Corbynist left were realised. The appointments of rightwingers such as Jess Phillips, Wes...

Four years ago today, Junior Doctors were out on Picket Lines - it's almost as if we had been saying for ages that Austerity will lead to complete and utter catastrophe.

A lesson for Labour from David Cameron during 2008. He didn't blunt his criticisms. He didn't mumble "now is not the time." He spent the crisis articulating a narrative of Labour failure and its responsibility for the crash. If Labour doesn't do the same now, we're screwed.

It is going to take far more than tinkering. A few sackings here and there will not suffice. We need total root and branch reform of our system.

Thread - If you think the culture that has become apparant through the findings of the recently leaked Labour Party report is limited to the top tier of politics you are wrong. This culture has permeated through and been allowed to fester like a malignant sickness at all levels.

It's been a shocking week for Labour members, with reports that some party officials worked against the party, its members & its voters. Next week we need to see real progress from the Labour Party leadership in how its investigation will deal with all the issues raised.

I stand with @JennieGenSec who despite having to deal with the biggest bunch of treacherous snakes in @UKLabour has remained completely dignified and focused. Don’t let them bury the #LabourLeaks It’s bullying of the worst kind and sabotage of a Labour Government. Fix it Labour

During my time away from twitter, I have missed Dan and his bizzare takes.
This is probably a daft question. But I wonder if just for once people on the liberal Left might want to step back and just have a think about why their constant attacks on Boris don't work. Literally just have a discussion about it. Then just go back to normal if they like.

14,000 dead - the economy on the cliff edge, and the public sector in desperate need of PPE. I think we need a little bit more than calls for an exit strategy at this point in time.
I urge the government to publish their exit strategy. Millions of people are playing their part. In return, the government needs to be open and transparent with the public about how it believes the lockdown will ease and eventually end. My letter to @DominicRaab:

Labour's leader in Derby, Lisa Eldret, is to step down. A meeting's likely to be held (virtually, perhaps) in May to decide her successor. Deputy leader Baggy Shanker has declared his interest in the role.

2/2 Democratisation of both the PLP and internal structures are urgently needed. Democratic accountability should be given to the membership. Both the arguments for Open Selections and electing the Gen Sec ate now stronger than ever.

1/2 It is quite clear from the leaked reports that the internal structures of the Labour Party are in desperate need of reform. This sort of culture cannot be allowed to manifest itself again.

One of the most politically savvy things @Keir_Starmer could do right now is announce that he intends to keep @JennieGenSec on as General Secretary.
