So....it turns out I work in the same building where Novak Djokovic has been watching the hearing today....it also seems I'm not getting my car out of the carpark anytime soon!
Djokovic’s barrister in particular has was excellent! He put his case very well and fought hard.
I'm torn as to what will happen. I started in favour of Djokovic. Then thought the Gov't was in front. It's close. I'll stick with my original view that Djokovic wins. But only just
Forget politics. Just have a read of this sentence. If you don't think it's ridiculous that the decision was even contemplated, let alone made let alone kept in place in the face of opposition for 5 days, then you've lost your sense of normal. But the public's views are turning
Norway's position is very interesting. Our roadmap in Victoria means even 80% there are enormous restrictions. Melbourne is about to break. Something has to give because I sense people won't cop these massive restrictions into Nov and Dec. Genuinely concerned for my city!
As you're watching what is happening in Ukraine, spare a thought for the journalists and camos on the ground literally risking their lives so we can know what's going on. And then next time you want to criticise the media, maybe think about a world without our fearless journos
Watching the footage of the Bourke Street stabbing and shooting you can't help but be reminded what heroes our
@VictoriaPolice
officers are. So if you see any police tonight, thank them for what they do. Well done to the members of the public who helped too
For the record....when someone says, "as the matter is before the Courts I am unable to comment", that is almost always a lie.
It's just not correct.
The person (or company) is choosing not to comment (usually for PR reasons).
Been annoying me for years!
This is the way it should work. Get advice. Consider advice. And then make a decision. The "health advice" is just one input. I am praying Victoria will move to this model instead of essentially delegating control to a health official who has only one aspect of life to consider
BREAKING: I have confirmed Dr Chant did not endorse this new roadmap. The Chief Health Officer warned the new Premier these changes come with risk, but the decision was ultimately a matter for the government. A shift from Perrottet away from “the health advice.”
@9NewsAUS
Are we getting close to a situation where those who won't download the covid-19 app are required to stay indoors and the rest of us can go out? That would sort out who really takes the "privacy" seriously.
If you haven't downloaded it yet, please do so.
@rwillingham
The Vic Gov't is absolutely 💯 permitted to comment on this.
What they mean is "we don't want to comment for political reasons because we don't fuel debate".
This is a massive cop out. Bad when this false excuse is used by an individual or company, but appalling from a Gov't.
I've been saying this for 18 months... our leaders (on both sides of the political divide) have too often surrendered decision making to the "health officials" and have hidden behind the phrase "we are following of the health advice"! We need to live with this. That means deaths.
"The politician's job is not to follow health advice. Their job is to take health advice, consider it, place it in its proper context."

Don't think about the Covid-19 app as tracing you. Your phone (& other devices) already does that. Think of it as tracing the movements of the virus. The worst thing about the virus is it's invisible. The app makes it less so & will help us get back closer to normal life quicker
Do yourself a favour and watch this spray from Judge Gaynor. Her Honor takes no prisoners here (pardon the pun). The two clowns were laughing at the end of the hearing.
This judicial dressing down is a great example of why Courts should be televised more (or even all the time)
"You may think you're heroes within the jail but do you think in 20 years time that's going to matter?" County Court Judge Liz Gaynor has gone off script during sentencing and slammed two inmates who attacked Tony Mokbel in Barwon Prison last year.

We have genuinely lost our way in Australia. Our athletes are vaccinated, were representing their country and are doing 14 days in hotel quarantine, yet SA is demanding they do another 14 days! It is unfair, over the top and simply not necessary. This decision MUST be reversed!
The AOC says the South Australian Government's decision to ignore expert medical advice and the decision of National Cabinet by imposing a 28 day period for returning Australian Olympians poses a significant mental health risk for those athletes.
Well after plenty of training, stacks of injuries, a blizzard that stranded us in Antarctica for about a week we finally managed to finish our marathon and survive the storm to return home to Chile. What an experience!
I've known Gill Mclachlan for more than 25 years. You may not have agreed with all his decisions, but you can't question Gill's passion for the game and his commitment to it. He's been an excellent AFL CEO. He's also possibly the most genuine and likeable person I know.
I don't think anyone has ever deserved a Gold Medal more than
@jessfoxcanoe
The pressure she was under can't be put into words. The ability to step up and deliver - especially in a sport that isn't just about speed or strength but requiring technical perfection is extraordinary!
Just to be clear, the suggestion that Tomic would sue Hewitt for something that happened 9 years ago is absolutely laughable. Aside from it sounding like one of the worst cases I've heard of, it would also be time barred.

AFL Grand Final Day is my favourite day of the year by a mile. Listened to Up There Cazaly and One Day In September to pump up and try and feel like I normally do on this day. I won't lie, I got very emotional at the line "football's such a part of this whole town"! This must end

Have a read of this, take a breath and calm down. Omicron may not be that bad. I feel like so many people are almost wishing or at least expecting this new variant to start lockdowns etc again. Maybe it's a coping mechanism. Let's be positive people!
Reassuring chat on
@3aw693
just now w Prof Bennett about the new variant, based what we know so far.
Says yes it’s looking more contagious BUT symptoms appear shorter and milder, and no evidence it can get around vaccination; so “shouldn’t assume it’s all about to happen” again.
I told my mum I was going to be on TV tonight (with

That's fair enough I reckon!
@bosleyhunter1
Correct. It's on a knife's edge and Djokovic’s barrister in the last 15mins really fought and I think he may have turned them back towards them. But it's so so so close.
Vic Premier

This is a blight on the beautiful game. I love soccer (like most sports), but they need to stop this sort of carry on.
The Italians are renowned for it. Remember 2006 when Italy scored in the 95th min after Grosso went down in the box like he'd been shot. It still hurts.
I reckon in the last 10 years many have wondered about the long term viability & relevance of the Olympics. Waking up today in lockdown without them on & yearning to watch more of them, the Olympics have never seemed more relevant & viable. Covid may have saved the Olympic Games!

Brutal assessment of Australia’s pandemic panic and why England should not come to play the Ashes from one of their best sports writers (and regular visitor)
I saw this bloke on Bay Street Port Melbourne just now!!! I guess you've gotta go when you've gotta go!!! There was a pub (presumably with a toilet) about 6m away from him!

1. Your jaw at the start.
2. His glasses
3. His teeth (or lack of)
4. You getting frightened
5. "Who does your hair?"
6. "Dude Hut"
7. The "arrest" or whatever that was
Brilliant!

It's silly trying to read the way judges are leaning based on the questions they ask....having said that and noting these judges have not asked too many questions or expressed many views, if I had to guess, I would suggest the judges are leaning against Djokovic. It's very close

The Warrnambool May Racing carnival is hands down the best country race meet in the country. Great fun. Do yourself a favour and get down there for a day (or three). Just a three hour drive or train ride from Melbourne. It's worth the trip.
Okay I'm not really a motor car racing fan. But this video is absolutely brilliant. Next level. Do yourself a favour and watch it. I guarantee at least a few goosebumps!
@7Sport
I was there that day. It's still one of the greatest days of my life. The 9 or 10 mins in which the three goals were scored is still the most euphoric feeling I've ever experienced.

What a joke!!
The AFP didn't "allow" it. The AFP would have absolutely no right to stop the Tweeting and filming. So it is misleading to suggest the AFP "allowed" it.
The fact that the AFP "allowed" members of ABC staff to film/tweet officers carrying out a search warrant shows the AFP is a supporter of press freedom, according to Acting Commissioner Gaughan

Actually Ted it's Administrative Law.
And it's my second biggest area of practice. I've been doing it and mounting these exact arguments for the last 25 years. I picked the first result absolutely. But yes, I was wrong on this one (although I said it would be very close)
Even if Collingwood wins the flag this year, it will be another year when they don't win a premiership in September (same as in 1990 and 2010 where both Grand Finals were in October). Collingwood hasn't won a Premiership in September since 1953!

An extraordinary and disgusting attack on a journalist just doing his job (& doing it well!). The irony of the protesters telling him to get a real job is funny. But also, don't the protesters want and need their protest to be reported? They should be thanking him not abusing him
Shockingly misleading statement from the Premier.
It appears he will do anything to get elected.
And to be clear, there is nothing stopping him from explaining what happened or didn't happen with the awarding of the contract. It's telling that he won't explain himself.

Hopefully this will give you a little more understanding about why I'm so passionate about my job of fighting suppression orders. Obviously I wasn't around when this one was made!
If you want to wear a mask, wear it, if you don't, then you take the risk. Since when do we need governments to mandate everything we do. Maybe it's time for some personal responsibility.
My favourite judge to appear before has passed away suddenly. He was a legend and a believer in free speech and our jury system. Many current judges would do well to take a leaf out of his book.
