Was unexpectedly laid off from @MotherJones on Friday the 13th. I’ve been deprived of direct access to my Google Drive, which contains 7 years worth of work. And am also ineligible for unemployment. A terrible Christmas for me and my family. If you have leads for work, pls lmk.

Really important, deeply researched new @BrookingsInst paper showing that the huge 2020-2022 homicide surge began in April 2020, before the Floyd murder and unrest weeks later, suggesting that pandemic stress and closures played a major role, even before onset of "Floyd effect."

Example of why we need digital media ownership policies serving the public interest. Mark Zuckerberg on bended knee to Maga is example. https://t.co/P2zHcTVfhi via @NYTimes

The president-elect has long been critical of Mr. Zuckerberg’s social media platforms, saying they censor conservative viewpoints.

'Trump’s transition team has also dispensed with the FBI’s role, in place since before World War II, in performing the background checks for political appointees.' https://t.co/M0xItHoMVc

Donald Trump’s transition team has begun what a close ally calls a hostile takeover of the federal government, ignoring the rules for the handover of power in the process.

Non-Black latinx people: WE NEVER REALLY STARTED THAT CONVERSATION ABOUT OUR ANTI-BLACKNESS. Not in our families, not in our communities. And here we are, helping to elect Donald Trump.

Despite all the chatter, Trump didn't really gain with black voters nationwide: 86% Harris, 12% Trump. Unchanged from 2020 when 87% of black voters went for Biden, 12% went for Trump. Black men? Static. 78-20% in 2024, 79-19% in 2020.

I would go back even further. One could argue that the rank and file didn't really get to choose any nominee in a truly free and open primary fight since Obama, and it shows.
My biggest ick was I felt the public didn’t really have a say — and no one seemed that interested in giving them one. Biden ‘20 became Biden ‘24 behind a set of assumptions that insiders made talking to themselves. I just thought that was such a risk and no one was talking abt it

One of the big questions on my mind tonight was whether those inroads Trump made in 2020 with Latino voters were an anomaly or a sign of a deeper, bigger story. It’s too early to tell, but we do know that the Latino vote, as we knew it, has fundamentally changed.

Could Trump’s egregious missteps with Puerto Rican voters cost him the election?

Our nation has yet to reckon with the deadly role our media system has played in the creation and distribution of narratives that have harmed countless people, including Ohio’s Haitian community, write @JGo4Justice and @JosephATorres.

Aubrey Plaza calls out comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's controversial joke about Puerto Rico. "Thankfully, my sweet abuelita wasn’t here to hear that disgusting remark. But if she was alive today, I think she would say, ‘Tony Hinchcliffe, go f--- yourself.’" https://t.co/ucQopAR2ON
