Fascinating deal. Two takes here: 1. Chelsea's £200m "valuation" on the Women's team appears to be... accurate! 2. On their last set of accounts Chelsea Women posted £11m in revenue. Cant help but feel that his is a high multiple on earnings for a Woman's Football Team

Laporta is fantastic at deal-making. Their performances on the pitch however mask a very precarious financial position off-the-pitch. A far cry from their rivals in Madrid who are: - Flourishing financially - Have an excellent stadium - Manage to sign top players every season

Finally who can forget the record-breaking kit deal with Nike. After months of rumours that they will make their jerseys themselves. Barcelona signed a record 14yr kit deal with over €1bn with Nike. The deal started on July 1, 2024 but specifics have never been released.

In late 2024, Laporta sold the rights to premium seats at the new Spotify Camp Nou stadium to generate €100m in revenue. Yes the rights to seats! The money came from UAE-based investors at a very important time. Allowing them to register Dani Olmo to play in La Liga.

In 2022, Barca signed a mammoth deal with Spotify worth a reported $280m over 4 years. This included full shirt sponsorship and the renaming of the iconic Nou Camp to the Spotify Nou Camp. The first time a brand had featured in the name of the historic stadium.

Barcelona are struggling. Despite their impressive season, off-the-pitch they are struggling financially. In the last few years, President Joan Laporta has made a series of desperate business deals to keep the club afloat. A thread of his most important financial plays 🧵

DAZN are now exiting their tie-up with Ligue 1 leaving the league without a major broadcaster for the second time in 5 years. A sad state of affairs for such a historic footballing league. https://t.co/qeSeLH4Q5j

That DAZN deal was fascinating though. It had stipulations… There was a break clause in the contract stating that they were able to leave if they did not attract the required subscribers to break even. They needed 1.5m subscribers to do that, after a few months they had

The 2025 broadcast renewal then became very important for French football. Ligue 1 was seeking €1bn in a 5-year deal to bring some stability back to the league. Ambitious, perhaps! After a lengthy search they could only find half. With DAZN and BeIN sports striking a deal for

Amazon came in to save the season for Ligue 1. A deal was reached for €250million from 2021 - 2024. Deals with Canal+ and international broadcasters brought the total figure up to €680 million. This was a massive drop from the €1.1 billion deal with Mediapro and also a drop
