This is mass murder on a scale we haven't seen in generations. Trump did this. Musk did this. The SCOTUS that allowed these cuts to congressionally mandated programs and an acquiescent @GOP did this. It's sickening.

Cardinal Robert McElroy, a Pope Leo ally who serves as archbishop of Washington, doesn’t mince words about what’s happening. “We are witnessing a full-scale governmental assault designed to produce fear among millions. “It's an instrument of terror.”

#DilexiTe refers to the preferential option for the poor 12 times: 4 times by Leo himself, 4 times quoting Lat-Am bishops (Medellin, Puebla, Aparecida), 3 times quoting John Paul II, and once quoting Francis. As Leo says, it is now “well integrated” into church teaching.

I express my concern about the rise of antisemitic hatred in the world, as unfortunately we saw with the terrorist attack in Manchester a few days ago.

Seriously, thank God for @NickKristof & @nytimes. Folks, he’s seeing FACTS. Not opinions. Not left wing. Not right wing. Facts. Dead people. Dead kids. Musk & Rubio still say “no one has died”. Not true. Do not believe them. Please.

Trump said he destroyed USAID to get rid of waste. What I found in the field was that he created waste -- of taxpayer dollars and of human lives.

I’m Till Eckert, a ProPublica reporter. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been going to the same NY immigration courthouse. Nearly every time, I see ICE agents arresting immigrants. Today, a woman was slammed to the ground after begging officials not to take her husband away. Thread👇

In my first 25 years as a reporter, I rarely had someone say for any reason that they were afraid to be interviewed. In the past decade it started happening much more. In the past week it's absolutely exploded

The #ChildTaxCredit lifted 2.4 million children out of poverty in 2024, but making the $2,200 credit fully refundable could have lifted 1.4 million more, an opportunity Congress and President Trump missed. https://t.co/asejK6qUb2

Child poverty remains far higher across racial and ethnic groups in 2024 than in 2021, when pandemic relief like the #ChildTaxCredit expansion cut child poverty nearly in half and narrowed inequities to record lows: https://t.co/TIUQjbjhIt

Today’s Census report shows the economy was reasonably strong in 2024, but wide inequities persisted. If left unchanged, the harmful Republican megabill will erode much of the progress on health coverage & push poverty and inequality higher. My statement:
