I've always wanted to make a documentary about why Paris has produced SO MANY amazing footballers.
And it's out now

Unai Emery comes across as such a classy guy. No bitterness whatsoever about how his time at Arsenal came to an end.
(And as for the mocking... This is a guy who, despite being a beginner in the language was brave enough to do his first Arsenal press conference in English).
Typical negative comments on here about the Liverpool parade… If, as a club, you can’t celebrate winning the FA Cup and the League Cup in the same season then football really is done… Congrats LFC on a season to remember.
Sadio Mane overtook Didier Drogba's Premier League goal tally tonight.
So Salah and Mane are now 1 and 2 in the top scoring African players in Premier League history. What a duo.
I’ve hesitated about posting this but I think it’s right to remember Christian Atsu in the correct way, as someone who radiated positive energy. A talented, friendly, kind and generous person.
This was from an interview I did with him before AFCON 2019.
Dan Amartey had nearly 2 years out after a serious ankle injury he suffered in 2018.
Now he’s battled his way back to become a first XI regular at LCFC… & with 2 top class performances v Nigeria, has helped take Ghana to Qatar.
One of the best players in the WC play offs IMO.
2015/2016 - Premier League winner.
2016/2017 - Premier League winner.
2017/2018 - FA Cup winner.
Summer 2018 - World Cup winner.
2018/2019 - Europa League winner.
The “Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the first player to score at eight major international tournaments” stat.
It’s - rightly - not going down well in Ghana.
Why?
@ASAMOAH_GYAN3
has scored in 9 major tournaments. World Cups and AFCONs from 2006 to 2017.
Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand: "We had two options to play the game [today] or tomorrow at 12pm and everyone agreed to play today. You can't play a game with such feelings. We tried to win. It was incredible they managed to go out and try to play the second half."
Nigeria the first of the "big" nations at
#afcon2021
to look 100% match sharp and up to speed. And this is a team that sacked their manager last month! Impressive stuff so far from the Super Eagles.
People calling Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane “lucky.”
They beat the French Champions in the last 16, the Italian Champions in the last 8 and the German Champions in the last 4... Hardest possible route to the final.
#UCL
Portugal v Ghana game: Still confused as to why the VAR didn’t recommend that the referee check the screen.
Especially when you hear tv referee pundits like Mike Dean saying it’s what they should’ve done.
The video is there to ensure these decisions are correct.
First the amazing shirts, now these outfits... The Nigeria team are only just getting on the plane to Russia but they’re already winning.

Simon Kjær and Kasper Schmeichel: Two wonderful leaders and outstanding human beings. Their reaction and the reaction of the other players at a time like that was incredible. No words.
Ghana's Daniel Amartey scores the winner for Leicester in the Premier League.
And at the same time, the "Black Satellites" win the AFCON U20 tournament, beating Uganda in the final.
A good night for Ghanaian football!
Confirmed - the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in January and February next year.
That means it'll be in the middle of the Premier League season.
It means Salah, Mane, Aubameyang, Zaha, Ndidi, Mahrez etc could miss up to 6 Premier League games next season.
I thought Ghana coped very well with Nigeria’s attacking line up - particularly Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku doubling up on Victor Osimhen.
In the balance second leg. Nigeria will feel confident of winning on their home turf but remember the away goals rule!
One last thing - Ghana have a new star in Mohammed Kudus. What a talent. Great future ahead of him. The crowd reaction to some of his skills and forward runs was brilliant to see. Fans favourite.
I’m at the Morocco pre match press conference. Walid Regragui is such an impressive communicator. Has spoken in 4 languages and has exactly the type of personality needed to cope the pressure of leading the team into such a huge occasion. His career will be interesting to follow.
Hello Ghana!
It’s one of the countries I’ve always wanted to visit - especially since I’ve been reporting on African football - & I’m finally here.
I hear there’s a big game Friday!!
(& if you need an independent judge of the Ghana v Nigeria Jollof debate, I am available 😂)
Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand (in tears at the post-match news conference): "It was a really tough evening, on which we've all been reminded what the most important things in life are. It's meaningful relationships. It's those people who are close to us. It's family & friends."
Funny seeing some pundits almost talking down Bayern Munich. 😂
Along the line of “no disrespect but…”
They’re one of the biggest sporting institutions in the world.
Always Champs League contenders.
Yes, they win the Bundesliga a lot. Well Man City win the Prem Lge a lot.
Mohammed Kudus is a fascinating player. I've seen more of him playing for Ghana where he lines up in central midfield but for Ajax tonight he's leading the line. Entertaining to watch and clearly very versatile.
A mad second half at Stadium 974.
Never dull watching Ghana.
Imagine the scenes if Inaki Williams had equalised!
(Note to Otto Addo - put Mohammed Kudus in attack).
The rise of N’Golo Kante is something special:
At the time of the last World Cup he was 23 but was preparing for his first season as a Ligue 1 player.
Today he’s a 2 time Premier League winner, an FA Cup winner, has 29 international caps & will start in a World Cup semi-final.
Galatasaray head coach Fatih Terim says he has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Remember the Turkish Super Lig was only suspended on Thursday. & Terim criticised the decision to keep playing - even if it was behind closed doors.
Bugün yapılan test sonuçlarına göre Corona Virüs sonucum pozitif çıkmıştır. Hastanede emin ellerdeyim. Merak etmeyin. En kısa zamanda haberleşmek üzere..
21st December : Several reports that Claude Puel has lost the Leicester City dressing room.
22nd December :
#LCFC
beat Chelsea.
26th December :
#LCFC
beat Man City.
Not a bad response.
For those replying “AFCON isn’t a major tournament” - ask Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Sadio Mane, Michael Essien etc etc etc. They’ll tell you different.
Whatever happens. Whoever lifts the World Cup.
Walid Regragui should be the Coach of the tournament.
He took over 81 days before the competition started. He reintegrated Hakim Ziyech into the squad. His tactics were absolutely spot on and the spirit of the team is incredible.
Has a team ever had a tougher run in a knockout stage to win a Champions League than PSG, Chelsea Man City and Liverpool??
Incredible from Real Madrid to come out on top in all of those ties.
Victor Osimhen plays as if he’s being controlled by a kid on FIFA who’s found a cheat code to make him more skilful, stronger, quicker and generally better than everyone else on the pitch. What a player.
Can’t imagine one match going football fan that would ever in a million years want a European Super League.
If it ever happens we may as well all call it a day with football. This isn’t a computer game, it’s years of history. It’s the whole fabric of the sport.

What?!
Like Champions League finals? Like title winning deciders? Like matches which Argentina have to win to qualify for the World Cup? Like El Clasico?
A pet hate is people criticising teams when they celebrate wins, talking of “over-celebrating” or “they haven’t won the league” etc.
Fans pay a lot of money to watch football & it’s a great feeling when players look as though they’re enjoying a win as much as you!
So bore off.
Can’t believe there is any criticism of Walid Regragui & Morocco’s counter-attacking style v Spain. Did people genuinely expect him to play into Luis Enrique’s hands just to make it more entertaining?! They were underdogs. & Morocco had the best chances. Regragui got it spot on.
When Graham Poll showed three yellow cards at the World Cup I don’t remember people saying that was embarrassing for European football.
Not a good day for AFCON, yes... But huge refereeing errors happen everywhere.
#AFCON2021
My Dad, who is Leicester born and bred, a big Foxes fan & went to his first game at Filbert Street in 1958, turns to me in injury time and says : “I’m glad I lived to see this.”
Football, you have broken me! 😭
Congratulations Leicester City.
Congratulations Khun Top.

@richardajkeys
Don’t think the power-point presentations were responsible for saving Hoffenheim from relegation when they were dead and buried before taking them into the Champions League with two successive top 4 finishes.
Tell you what Anthony Taylor has no respect for narrative.
Ghana going into the grudge Uruguay game with 3 points on the board and all to play for and he ADDS ON 10 MINUTES! 😂😂
John Obi Mikel not happy at all with the decision not to give the penalty to Nigeria at 1-1. "Clear handball, clear penalty. It was open. For me a penalty is a penalty. We've seen it again and it's still a penalty."
#NGA
Let's face it, I'm English, I'm delighted. Over the course of the 120 minutes they deserved it.
But gutted that Denmark's incredible and emotional Euro 2020 journey ends like that, with a dodgy penalty decision. Their attitude, resilience and quality have lit up this tournament
I’ve been in Poland today to check in on Nigeria’s World Cup preparations.
They’ll be the youngest squad at Russia 2018... Spirit/unity in the Super Eagles camp seems like the best it’s been since I’ve reported on the team.
Ipswich Town’s success under Kieran McKenna is a truly remarkable story.
When he was appointed in December 2021: 12th in League 1.
April 2024: one point away from the Premier League.
Incredible winning momentum.

You’ve heard the negatives so I’ll give you some positives on Odion Ighalo.
-A natural number 9.
-very strong/resolute personality. He’ll keep going whatever adversity is thrown at him.
-proven in the Prem.
-offers something different to Martial/Greenwood.
-brilliant team-mate
So it's really happening then. An outfield player will be in goal for Comoros tomorrow v Cameroon:
Comoros assistant boss Daniel Padovanni:
"We've already chosen an outfield player who will start as keeper...It's a player who in training has shown that he can play as a keeper."
A lot of people quibbling about Riyad Mahrez being 10th in the Ballon d’Or award.
He led his country to the Cup of Nations title, scoring an injury time winner in the semi-final.
It’s great that voters took that into account. AFCON & Copa America should carry weight this year.
Medaase Ghana!
It’s been a great week in Accra and Kumasi covering the Jollof derby, doing our

Sportsworld show and meeting some fascinating and friendly people.
Heading home to Manchester now to find a restaurant that does Waakye! 👋
I’ve been lucky enough to be in Morocco for the last couple of days finding out the secrets to their recent World Cup success… Radio show and podcast will be out during the international break.
(And in other news I’m now a huge fan of Moroccan mint tea).
Jose Mourinho's new, young assistant Joao Sacramento is an interesting appointment.
Very highly regarded at Lille. Both as a coach and as a person.
Speaks English, French, Spanish, Portuguese.
Luis Campos is a big supporter of his.
Studied in Wales & worked with the Welsh FA.
Football fans from Ghana will like this:
“Ayew” is currently trending on twitter in the UK.
Why?
Basically loads of Crystal Palace fans saying Jordan Ayew should be their player of the year.
You can see why
@Aubameyang7
is reluctant to play for Gabon anymore. They are a mess.
Squad announced earlier this week. There's a player selected who hasn't had a club for "several months" but still got a call-up.
The Gabon FA only realise that today and replace him.
Dan Amartey - out for 18 months with a serious ankle injury.
After his comeback this season he’s started when Leicester City have picked up wins over Man City & now Liverpool.
Really pleased for him.
Classy gesture by Man City’s Aymeric Laporte:
For an auction to raise money for health workers the father of French boxer Alexis Vastine donated his son’s London 2012 Olympics outfit.
Sadly Alexis died in 2015.
Laporte bought the outfit... And gave it back to Alexis’s Dad. 👏
So 51 year-old George Weah did play for Liberia - for 79 minutes (!) - against Nigeria tonight in a friendly.
Apparently the game “was arranged in honour of the country’s president” and to retire his number 14 shirt.
Still seems pretty crazy. It was a strong Nigeria team.
-West Brom promoted despite only a draw v QPR.
-Swansea turn around a 5 goal swing to get into the play-offs at the expense of Nottingham Forest.
-Barnsley beat Brentford with an late winner to stay up.
-Luton beat Blackburn 3-2 to stay up.
😮
The Championship is brilliant.
