I was recently asked by German newspaper ‘Der Tagesspiegel’ (Berlin): „Why do some people get goosebumps when chalk scrapes on chalkboard?“. This is the column😊: https://t.co/qsSuKC6bLk

Last week, the #spemannmangold2024 symposium took place @UniFreiburg. It was an honour to contribute to an event with such amazing guests! Together with an upcoming exhibition, it links the 1924 discovery of an 'organiser' to current signalling research. ➡️ https://t.co/plYsbcMHAC

Congrats! Intriguing results: inhibitory corollary discharge in mouse superior colliculus! Fascinating homologies to recently found inhibitory synaptic CD signals in zebrafish optic tectum (=superior colliculus in fish). @biorxiv_neursci https://t.co/Xl2HnRpUrl

Having reported key findings at conferences for some time now (e.g. the wonderful #cshlzebrafish 2019 and #NeuroZF2022), we are happy we can now make available the full story on motor-related signaling in this visual pathway as a preprint on @biorxiv_neursci 6/n

We are excited as we were able to identify a synaptic corollary discharge signal in a key visual center in the brain of larval #zebrafish: The optic tectum, a major visual processing area in many species, receives synaptic inhibition every time there is motor output. 5/n

This class of signals, called 'corollary discharge' or 'efference copy', is the subject of intense research because it tells us something about how we perceive the world as stable and how we take the sensory consequences of our own actions into account when planning actions. 4/n
