The offseason has officially arrived for the entire NFL, and for the first time in half a decade, the Colts' offseason won't be defined by the search for a QB.
For Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen, explosive plays are the offseason's driving force.
Colts have told Ryan Kelly to take all the time he needs, they're behind Ryan and Emma 100 percent, it's completely up to Kelly to decide when he comes back
Colts defense now has five players who’ve been to a Pro Bowl:
- DeForest Buckner (2x)
- Yannick Ngakoue
- Darius Leonard (3x)
- Stephon Gilmore (5x)
- Kenny Moore
Sean Payton is obviously the biggest name on the market.
One thing to remember: You have to trade for him, and the Saints have no reason to offer anybody a discount.
DeForest Buckner: “I knew Frank was a special coach when I first got here.”
Says it’s the bonds that Reich builds with players. Reich was at Buckner’s baptism, and that mattered deeply to the DT
The

game drew 23.9 million viewers on Sunday on Fox. That's the second most-watched NFL game this season — behind only Bucs-Saints (25.9 million) in Week One.
The Colts have 7 Pro Bowlers, the most since 2014. Indianapolis landed:
- Jonathan Taylor
- Quenton Nelson
- Ryan Kelly
- DeForest Buckner
- Darius Leonard
- Kenny Moore
- Luke Rhodes
In the Pro Bowl
Another thing that jumped out:
Peyton Manning was once again involved in the Colts’ QB search.
“I know Peyton is ecstatic, and was behind the scenes trying to contribute his evaluations.”
Frank Reich has asked Manning for QB advice in the past.
The Carson Wentz mistake is still a mistake.
But the Colts responded to that mistake, essentially, by getting a Day 2 draft pick and Matt Ryan in exchange for their mistake.
Frank Reich with a personal word, says Tony Dungy started a tradition of Colts reading through Bible in a year.
Revelation 5.
Says he was in his room weeping with joy this morning. "It just gave me sobbing joy, it gave me confidence and strength."
Carson Wentz through 5 games: 65.3 percent completions, 7.6 yards per attempt, 7 TDs, 1 INT, 99.4 rating.
Wentz hasn’t been perfect, and he was kicking himself for the first-half fumble last night.
But Wentz is playing pretty darn good football for the Colts so far.
DeForest Buckner says it's got to be a mentality and a mindset to avoid whatever weird Florida juju has cursed the Colts in Jacksonville.
"We're dialed in."
Sam Ehlinger has already been through unimaginable loss, and his father's death taught him something that's helping him deal with his brother's sudden death.
Bottling up grief, pushing it down only leads to more pain.
You have to get that emotion out.
Anthony Richardson says Indy feels like home now. Says he's gotten a house, says he still hasn't seen much of Indy yet.
"I've seen my playbook a lot. ... And I think it's going to be that way for a long time."
From what I can tell, it sounds like Colts have significant interest in Gilmore. More than just kicking tires.
Not that it’s a surprise or anything. Gilmore’s not the kind of guy who’s visiting on a whim.
Kenny Moore II’s absence from OTAs this week is intentional, source says. Moore II is upset and feels like he’s underpaid, given his importance to Colts defense. Moore II is scheduled to make $6.75 million in ‘22 and $8.245 million in final two years of deal.
Philip Rivers on Steichen: “Super fired up for Shane. ... It was just a matter of time before he got the opportunity to be a head coach. His offensive mind and feel for calling a game is elite. The Colts got a heck of a coach and person.”
The Colts made a significant financial commitment to Matt Ryan for two seasons, and Jim Irsay said during the draft that he could see that extended to 3 or even 4 years.
To pull the plug this early, even given Ryan's play, is wild.
Nyheim Hines in May: “I hope to play there my entire career, and I hope to establish a legacy where Indianapolis is always going to have that slasher, scatback, that little fast guy who’s so versatile.”
On the Wentz stuff, I’ll stick with where I’ve been since end of season:
1. Wentz’s season felt like Brissett's
2. A cap hit didn’t stop Indy from making a QB move after ’19.
3. You can’t like a person more than entire Colts org liked Jacoby. That didn’t stop them, either.
Feel so bad for Marlon Mack, who handled the Colts drafting another RB better than just about anybody else would, and who now loses the rest of a contract year
"Go ahead and pop one off right here, huh?"
@cj_wentz
asked.

Colts go non-exclusive with the franchise tag.
Under non-exclusive tag, Pittman can negotiate with other teams, and if he gets an offer elsewhere, Indy can either match the deal or get two first-round picks from his new team.
First time Colts have used tag since 2013.
Shane Steichen on Gus Bradley on Nov. 17th:
“I’ve got a ton of respect for Gus Bradley. I worked with him for four years in L.A. Hell of a football coach, hell of a human being.”
Two years ago the Colts sat out the initial edge-rusher wave in a class that looked fairly deep, then signed Justin Houston the next week.
Houston ended up with more sacks over his two-year deal than anybody in that class, other than Za'Darius Smith.
Got to give it time.
Ballard says he believes the Colts have flexibility they haven't had the last few years, cites Richardson's rookie contract. "We'll be as aggressive as we need to be in free agency with players that we think can help us."
Rookie Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is up to 10th in the NFL in rushing, with 842 yards this season.
Needs 158 in the final two games to get to 1,000.
Alec Pierce got a text from his barber today.
The barber said God told him Pierce was going to the Colts. The barber wanted him to go to the Bengals so he could keep cutting his hair, but God told the barber Pierce was Colts-bound.
Anthony Richardson says he played at 240 pounds at Florida, but he’s 248, 250 now.
Asked why he wanted to put on weight, he says “I didn’t. That’s just my body, muscle mass growing”
Some people are literally built different.
