Turn 36 today & I’ve spent my entire thirties with #LongCovid. When I turned 30 I was biking to work 10 miles a day, & since my mild covid infection — I struggle to walk more than a block or work more than a few hours a week. Here’s 4 things I wish everyone knew:

COVID is the main driver in the increase of unemployment. I was 21, starting my career in aerospace engineering, when I was infected by COVID-19 - that ended immediately. I am now 25 and still unable to work a normal job. I am 1 in millions with this exact story.

The Government should be investing properly in treatments for Long COVID. Far too many people left in this situation: read Darren's story. 👇🏼
This time last year I lost my job due to #LongCovid. Unsurprisingly it was an extremely difficult time. I'd worked for the NHS as a Learning Disability Nurse for 20yrs. Long Covid ended my career. It also drastically altered my life. Some reflections 👇

This article in Psychology Today is heart-aching. "I miss myself" "In March 2023, our colleague Denise Schiwon contracted Covid-19 for the first time. After that, nothing was the same. Here she talks about her daily life with ME/CFS: https://t.co/XZf0ffCZ3Y

Have you heard any other party leader talk about #LongCovid? Thank you to @ZackPolanski for making sure that long covid is part of the national conversation. Now we need Labour to step up and properly fund the research we desperately need to find treatments. #TreatLongCovid

In my head it goes without saying, but any #LongCovid struggle is linked with the millions of the #MECFS community who have been ignored and left in the dark for a lot longer than those of us who are new to it. We all desperately need research, trials and funding.

Even in the face of that, we keep going. This horrible app can often feel likely shouting into the void, but there's a community here who keep fighting for recognition and for help. As ever, I hope I don't have to make this post again next year.

I am luck to have all of that - there are lots of people suffering from the same disease (and more severely) without the same support network & I never take for granted how lucky I am. But I hope some of my luck changes. Or science catches up. Or people actually start to care.

I am very grateful to the people around me who support me and lift me up. There have been people along the way who have supported me in ways I can never show enough gratitude for. The people around me saved my life.

I have spent my savings on trying new drugs or supplements. The NHS offer very limited support so the burden is on the patient to try anything they can or just wait in the dark. Every day it is hard to face the lack of government messaging, urgency or funding to help millions.

But 3 years is a really, really long time. I miss my life. I miss who I was & what I was able to do. I miss being able to socialise as much as I want and walk and run and work. I miss spontaneity, having agency and every part of my life I took for granted. I miss actually living.

Today is the three year anniversary of the covid infection that seemingly changed my life. There are still no approved treatment for Long Covid. I work very hardy to enjoy what I can, and if you've seen my in the last three years, you know I try and stay positive.

“We must recognise that independent producers are the R&D hub of the film industry and we are beneficial for the whole film ecosystem. There are huge upside benefits to funding and encouraging creative, risk-taking producers”
britishcinematographer.co.uk
At a time where production is booming - a record spend of £6.27bn was cited by the BFI production report Feb 2023 - why does it feel harder than ever to find a producer and get an indie film made,...
