Found numerous small squid (<12 cm) in southern bluefin tuna stomachs from Port Macdonnell. Any ideas on the species? @ALCESonline

✨New paper alert!✨ Our research on the trophic role of deep-sea squid in the Great Australian Bight has been published in @FrontMarineSci. The study was led by Beth Jackel from @Flinders and assessed rarely encountered squid 🦑 Read the paper here:

Standard media craze but always interesting to see predator-prey interactions within top predators. If you’ve seen or heard about orcas-sharks interactions, check out 2nd photo and contact us on killerwhalesandsharks@gmail.com

Back from a recent trip from Kangaroo Island @lucindahats has been collecting water samples from across the island. The water samples will be assessed for #platypus eDNA to assist in detecting remnant platypus populations. 🧬

How does #shellfishrestoration Influence sediment characteristics? Ryan Baring will be exploring this question in his presentation on the Glenelg oyster reef and its #seascape interactions with seagrass 🌱 Ryan is presenting at #AMSA2023 in room 7 at 4:15pm 🦪

Had a great chat about #Taningia with @alexlariley from @NautilusMag for this. Why do these huge #deepsea #squid have the largest know photophores (light-producing organs) in the animal kingdom? Have a read here: https://t.co/hf9YvgXrxs

This week the lab has started with a trip to the Windara #shellfish reef to collect water and oyster samples 🦪 Windara was built in 2018 and is the first and largest shellfish reef in Australia. Research by @BecSuttonSmith will assist in understanding #restoration outcomes

Check out these huge tuna that @JessHenkens sampled for her #fisheries PhD research 🎣 Jess attended the 41st Port MacDonell Tuna comp and obtained samples from local fishermen that will be used to investigate the diet and migration of these fishes 🐟 🐟

We are investigating #orca prey specialisation on specific organs, and we need your help! We have examples of #whale tongues in low and high latitude regions, #shark livers in S. Africa, and #sunfish intestines in Mexico. Any other specific organs or regions with picky orcas?
