Thanks very much to Ian and @NottFoundation for talking to me about ongoing work in Ukraine - nice shout out for the value of anaesthetists too @RCoANews @TheDrMagazine.
Consultant Ian Nesbitt has been training anaesthetists on the frontline in Ukraine with the @NottFoundation since the conflict began. Here, he tells @JenTrueland about the value of training the whole healthcare team to work in conflict zones [1/3]:.

Not surprised by this response from GPs - it's almost as if the Northern Ireland health department doesn't actually *want* general practice, or, indeed, a health service @BMANI_GP @BMA_NI.
GPs have REJECTED the contract offer from @healhtdpt. 99.6% of them said it was not enough. We have written to the Minister requesting an urgent meeting.

I'm often struck by shiny adverts saying ooh, come and work in x rural area to swim in the sea and climb literal mountains - when actually, that's not what it's about. Maybe if it becomes a specialty, rural and remote medicine will get the kudos - and doctors - it needs.
It takes a special set of skills and knowledge to be a doctor in the UK’s rural and remote regions – and this is recognised by a new accreditation. In this piece, @JenTrueland speaks to the pioneers of the rural and remote health credential in unscheduled and urgent care: [1/5]

I found writing my share of this article really quite difficult and emotional - and I didn't go through what these doctors did. Thanks to @amyismall and Rosie Baruah for talking to me about where we are now.
Five years on, memories of the COVID pandemic can feel surreal but its impact is still strong. Six doctors share their reflections on those years including the lessons that were and weren't learnt, the glimmers of hope, the moral injury and a lot of unprocessed trauma 🧵 [1/7]

Dani has been working on this topic for many years and I know how much it has affected her. Pleased to see it get a wider audience in @LRB. Recommended, obvs.
“William’s story was 1 of intergenerational trauma & the lies Scotland tells itself about its care of its vulnerable children.” My @LRB longread on the Polmont suicides & our failing youth justice system is the result of 6 years’ work & means a lot to me.”

Still hoping to speak to at least one nurse who has worked abroad and come back to the UK for a feature for @NurseStandard, ideally by the end of the week. Please get in touch.
Looking to speak to #nurses who have worked abroad (ideally recently) and come back to the NHS/UK for a feature I'm writing for @NurseStandard. DMs temporarily open 🙂.

A sensible summary - without heat - on where we are with this difficult topic from my colleague @Seren_Boyd.
As a parliamentary committee moves to line-by-line scrutiny of the assisted dying bill next week, @TheBMA will continue to feed into the debate through regular MP briefings. A thought-leader on assisted dying, @theBMA has seen many of its key positions included in

I've been talking to some amazingly impressive doctors recently - and this one is quite exceptional. Thanks very much to @NottFoundation clinical director Ammar Darwish for talking to me about his dual life (and making me wonder what I've done with mine. ).
How do you balance life as an #NHS surgeon with stints in some of the most dangerous conflict and disaster zones in the world?. @NottFoundation clinical director @Ammar_Darwish1 shares his experiences with @JenTrueland [1/5].
