A majority of victims “freeze” in response to sexual assault. I spent over a year trying to understand what this means and why we are failing victims by not understanding it. In this week’s cover story for @NYTmag #ifroze #metoo

Sexual assault often goes unpunished when victims fail to fight back. But investigators, psychologists and biologists all describe freezing as an involuntary response to trauma.

They bombed the rescue team on air while at the hospital itself. I cannot believe. What the hell. 18 people were killed, of them were 5 journalists.

Mariam Dagga, killed by Israel today, was an incredibly talented photographer. She relentlessly and courageously documented the genocide. I'm going to share some of her images. Graphic content included.

Israelis are mocking American artists who are standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people by writing their names on bombs that will be dropped on people. These two artists whose names are written here are Billie Eilish and Mark Ruffalo. “You can go to Gaza.”

You will never convince me this wasn’t misogyny. Not with the way Trump constantly mocked and demeaned those who served.

imho all personal essays should be, in some way, a self-immolation. if men are not doing it, this is a reflection of moral and intellectual cowardice/inadequacy under the guise of superiority
The personal essay that lets the writer self-immolate is a genre, and it's been a genre for at least a decade, but what's interesting is that it's a genre only for women.* * to write. Anyone can enjoy reading it.

"This is the first installment of 'Preserving Gaza,' a series of interviews with Palestinian writers and scholars about particular aspects of Gaza’s history, heritage and cultural life, much of which has been destroyed by Israel’s siege and bombardment."

People want Taylor Swift to be gay when she very obviously isn’t because they consider her the aspirational paradigm of white American womanhood in an era when the contradictions of heterosexuality and its incompatibility with women’s dignity are coming into focus send tweet

Framing how people respond during sexual assaults in terms of "survival mode" and "reflexes and habits" is much better than adding "freeze," "fawn" or other f-words to "fight, flight,..." To learn why, you can read my writings and watch my videos...

In print today: My Times Insider chat with @JenPercy, who interviewed dozens of victims of sexual assault for this Sunday's @NYTmag story about why some rape victims freeze rather than screaming or fighting back. 🔽 https://t.co/yIfNEj1Knf

@TheJHF @NYTmag @JenPercy #Tonicimmobility-#freezing-#fawning, etc. are LEGALLY UNDERSTOOD to be #CONSENT in most penal codes. The Consent Awareness Network is leading the way to change that by eradicating #victimblaming legal language. Sign the petition to #CodifyConsent: https://t.co/5XwIm1ZXbi

Truly eye-opening. I think "puzzling" is the best word for my reaction sometimes when hearing strong women I totally believed say they "froze." This TOTALLY explains it! Jaw-dropping--and succinct. Just changed my whole perception. @JenPercy

America’s prisons are filling up with people who are so old, they don’t remember their crimes.
