List of deadliest avalanches since the recreational era began in 1950, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. The 1981 Mt Rainier accident involved climbers in an ice fall style avalanche. Fearing this accident could be historic.

Search and rescue has reached the six known survivors. Three are injured and unable to ski out. Working to extricate them via snowcat, but have to ski them to snowcat staged outside avy terrain. Once done, focus turns to finding the 10 missing. May have to wait until tomorrow.

The group of skiers were clients and guides from Blackbird Mountain Guides returning from an overnight stay at Frog Lake Huts.

A group of 16 skiers at 11:30 a.m. today. At least six of the skiers have survived the avalanche and remain at the avalanche site, awaiting rescue, with the remaining ten unaccounted for at the time of this release. The group consisted of four ski guides with 12 clients. - Police

This was a professionally guided group leaving the Frog Lake Huts. Avalanche danger was rated HIGH at all elevations. 2-3 feet of new snow in the last 36 hours in the area and still falling at 2-4 inches per hour. Rescue efforts ongoing in dangerous conditions.

Group was leaving an overnight backcountry hut. According to the huts schedule, today was the group's departure day. Of the 10 people reportedly caught in the avalanche, it is unclear how many, if any, are buried. The group reported three members are working to dig out victims.

New: We are following a scary situation out of Castle Peak outside Lake Tahoe in California. An active search and rescue operation is underway for up to 10 people possibly involved in a backcountry avalanche, according to the Sierra Avalanche Center. @ABCWorldNews
