"Pronghorn" would be cultural misappropriation. There are no pronghorn antelope within at least 200 miles of LC's campus. They live on the dry and more conservative side of the state, which appreciates Merriwether Lewis and William Clark's irreplaceable contribution to Oregon.

A college called Lewis & Clark, in Oregon, wants to jettison the entirely apt "Pioneer" mascot because it thinks it's still 2021. Possible replacement names: timberwolves, river hawks, river otters, pronghorns, mammoths, lynx, herons and cascades.
The 21-member Mascot Advisory and Selection Committee narrowed down a list of replacements this fall, after receiving 414 recommendations from other community members.
