A new single-convention record at BLFC: 57 new boings out in the wild. I've been avoiding signing up for any more conventions though, since my order queue has been exploding recently. I'll do ANW and VF soon, but 2024 is going to be all about focusing on taming the wait-list.
So I've been gathering up data on furry-specific scams recently and I'm noticing a disturbing trend where almost all of the victims are aged 18-23. So I want to do a bit of a PSA to the new generation of furries about protecting yourselves as you get involved in the fandom. 1/?
@DannyDeMitzo
@Madamekatacomb
Translation from douchebag to English: "I'm willing to fuck over the entire fandom for social media clicks and the only thing you guys can do is ban me. Get rekt losers."
I've been keen to see a Boing in a furry dance battle pretty much from day one, and at VancouFur it finally happened. This is a small clip of Rororo (limp) vs Jynx (boingy)
I may have a little bit of catching up to do on my orders...
The goal for 2024 is to triple production and get 500+ tails shipped out. New employee, new molds, new workshop. I won't be signing up to any more conventions in that time for vending, as I really need to devote
@DannyDeMitzo
Because you haven't done enough damage yet? Under no circumstances should you contact the hotel about this without the involvement and supervision of the convention's hotel liaison, and I think you know damned well that it would only cause further damage and grief.
Today, Furry lost one of its founding fathers, Mark Merlino. If I spent the next 100 years devoted to Furry, I couldn't add 1% of what Mark did. Mark is to Furry as Neil Armstrong is to spaceflight, and our community is less without him.
@1carus_x
That's largely up to how the sleeve gets made. The sleeves I make by default are big and fluffy to create volume. Other people have made slimmer sleeves. Like Pup BB the pibble here:
Every now and then I check TikTok to see who's wagging. Found Rustohusko showing off his new Boingy Tail that he got at Vancoufur 2022. Seems he found a pretty appropriate song for it too. :D
I'll now conclude my Old Man Rants At The Kids PSA.
Experienced furries: If you have your own experiences or advice for those new to the fandom, please add them in replies.
Newer furries: If you have questions, ask them. We genuinely want to help.
I've added a new telegram public group for Boingy Tail wanters and havers. My main channel at will still be my primary updates and content, the public conversation is at for everyone else to post their own tail stuff. :)
The tail sleeves I took to
@VancouFur
, along with their current status. Anything not marked as sold or reserved is still available at the prices indicated over on the Telegram channel
@avoidalmond
@PoodleSWC
@puppykenobi
I'm not "closed", I'm just swamped as heeeeeck with orders. I was kinda-mostly joking about hiding all the tails from the public. ;)
If an artist/maker approaches you in private messages to initiate a sales pitch, RED FLAG.
If anyone asks you to use a payment mechanism with difficult or short-window chargeback procedures (looking at you, Cashapp and Paypal Friends and Family), RED FLAG. 4/?
Remember that about half of any group of people are assholes. The fact that someone is a talented artist or maker does NOT mean that they won't take advantage of you. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to learn the hard way that "Creative" does not mean "Good Person". 3/?
Well, now that my business cards are out there with this twitter address on it, I guess I really ought to be building out this account with Boingy Tail content. Bear with me while I figure out how Twitter works and start getting the videos and information up.
If you are negotiating a contract and supporting a business, then negotiate a contract and support a business.
If you are donating money to a person in need, then donate to a person in need.
Each are great things to do, but they are a terrible combination when mixed. 10/11
I love Furry and have been active since about 2005. It's more than the art and costumes, it's a huge mutual support network that does incredible things sometimes. But accepting everyone means that some real assholes walk among us too. 2/?
I guess I should have posted this at some point:
Absolarix using their new tail for VR haptic feedback. Yet another of the apparently common uses for the boingy tail that I did not anticipate when I started making them. :D
Often a scam includes a sob story. "Parents kicked me out because gay and am homeless" and "my cute pet has disease, needs vet" are common examples.
Legit emergency needs happen, but liars will prey on generosity to siphon support away from those truly in dire straits. 9/ ?
@Adabear_Art
The shot slowly zooms out, revealing that this fond look is directed to a wheel of cheese that is being tenderly sliced and sectioned onto some crackers. A teapot and some fruit slices are seen nearby. Life is good.
Set timeline expectations before paying anyone anything, always. We all want to be patient when commissioning someone, but do NOT be a doormat.
Things happen, delays are common, it happens. But if deadlines are missed, you deserve communication. 6/?
If the artist doesn't have a gallery in a place where you can't change your name (like FA), RED FLAG.
If the price is too good to be true, RED FLAG. I understand that a lot of young folk have to stretch every dollar, and this is what the scammers use to get you excited. 5/?
I have also had friends get burned on transport/rooming arrangements for conventions. The "looking for roommate at con" scam is increasingly popular. Do not pay anyone anything until you have a keycard in your hand and your suitcase on a bed. 8/?
If it's your first time dealing with an artist or maker, SEARCH FOR BEWARES. Use the hard-learned lessons of others to protect yourself.
If an artist changes their handle every 6-12 months, RED FLAG. Look at the signatures on their work from 3-5 years ago. 7/?
@teelatauntaun
@PatrickSnowyote
Let's be a bit careful here. There's a lot of context missing, and the video itself only shows walking, waving, and the presence of a megaphone. Let's have a bit more information before we write off a whole con. ;)
@UUelDee
@svphvclvs
I don't think he actually knows how to joke. He knows how to say mean things and claim they're a joke. He knows how to say stupid things and claim they're a joke... But I don't think he has any concept of how to say something that's deliberately and honestly funny.
@Christi47627253
and are the default places that I normally operate, but they're not totally necessary. I can be emailed at JayEnfield on Gmail, or you can use the order form at
Now that Anthro Northwest is finished, my revised convention schedule for the rest of 2023: Vancoufur (BC), Fur-Eh (AB), Furry Migration (MN), BLFC (NV), PAWcon (CA). I've dropped Furlandia as my sister's wedding will be that same weekend, and my backorder list is getting thicc.
So, an update for the near future: I'm not planning on doing any more conventions until Anthro Northwest. I'll be focused on fulfilling all the backorders I've accumulated over the next couple of months.
@DelverneS
@briantylercohen
This doesn't end in 2021. All of the structural problems that made Trumpism viable will still be in place. It cannot end until USA gets serious about electoral reform and ditches these obsolete electoral college votes and primary processes.
@Amanda_Axolotl
I switched silicones to a very slightly stiffer (and much easier to pour) version back in July. Actually sold the first ones at Fur-Eh.
Tentative convention schedule for 2023: ANW (WA), Vancoufur (BC), Furlandia (OR), Fur-Eh (AB), Furry Migration (MN), BLFC (NV), PAWcon (CA). Maybe one more towards the end of the year. Will be looking at cons further away after that, but for now I'm sticking mostly to driving.
@Ennard_Marelys_
I have been elbows-deep in Callies' tactics for the last four months now, compiling it all into the Big Beware ( ). You can actually watch her scam evolve over the course of FIFTY sets of screenshots. I've already submitted it all to the ICCC.
@imHitchens
@tbonetommy39
@MsGalathea
@Palle_Hoffstein
This guy is just the "if you're poor, stop being poor" meme, come to life. The use of the term "real job" tells us that everything he says is meant to pat himself on the back and spit down at anyone who has less money. My parents do the exact same thing ad nauseum.
it often seems. like the human is jealous of me. because of how happy i get. about the simplest things. i don’t know how to tell them. they can do that too
@Courtne22403376
Contact me to place an order. JayEnfield on telegram or @ gmail. A core is 250 USD or equivalent, the sleeves range from 55 to 85 each depending on complexity.
@DannyDeMitzo
@skywolf76281127
@CACKLEDISPENSER
If you care about FWA as a convention, you will delete this video ASAP and never put it on the internet again. Nobody in these comments is joking about what a serious existential risk to the convention and the fandom this sort of thing is.
@LauraLepre2
@RanttMedia
Fully agree. CRT has been obsolete for years now, our schools deserve LED-based teaching equipment. Cast your CRTs into Satan's recycling center where they belong. Amen.
@SoulLabyrinths
@andraconix
The tails are about 24" in length. They're all the same size, so that every sleeve fits every core. I don't have plans to do other sizes at the moment.
The standard price for cores is 250 USD or equivalent, and sleeves are 50 to 90 depending on complexity.
@SocialistMormon
@Nexuist
Eh, it's just social media doing its usual thing: Taking 15-year-old clickbait and then re-posting it yet again as an excuse to talk down to a strawman and start arguments about nothing.
@PUPC0DED
@sukebanbarbie
Who says there's not a shot? I have a few mechanisms that bypass the main queue such as purchasing older models of the tail that I've taken as trade-ins, or any cosmetic-defect tails that accidentally get made. I also have a charity-auction coming up with coloured cores. :)
@Plasma_Serval
@PurpleBnuuy
@MarbleShark_AD
Make it so that when you google her name you end up at posts like this one. Be sure to make entries on ArtistBeware as well. The community is big, but it's also a lot smaller than some people think, if you follow my meaning.
@KosmaKaia
@PupJaxces
@squeakystinky
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT commission Marbleshark/Jaxces under any circumstances. This is a straight-up scammer, you WILL get scammed. Contact me directly here or on Discord/Telegram (JayEnfield) if you want proof because I have got boatloads of it.
Convention schedule for the rest of 2022 for Boingy Tails: Furlandia (Portland), BLFC (Reno), Fur-Eh (Edmonton), Migration (Minnesota), Invasion (San Antonio). Got me a whole BOOTH locked in for Furlandia!
@AstrosWorld707
@DannyDeMitzo
It's possible for many things to be problems simultaneously. We are not wrong to be annoyed by this asshole doing this and spreading the video. The fact that other bad things happened does not make this one not-bad, it's just the one we're talking about in this particular thread.
@Ennard_Marelys_
The furry community is about support and acceptance, and Callies damages that fabric. She steals money, steals names, makes threats, erodes the trust that exists in our artistic community, and gaslights anyone who pushes back. This absolute problem of a person must be removed.
@tollewut
It comes across with some pretty strong "nice shop you got here, would be a shame if something happened to it" energy.
I can see why a warning about the statement would need to be made out of an abundance of caution.
@pelzibat
In economics, this is called the Income Effect, which models how a consumer base with more money will lead to goods having higher prices. There's no nefarious reason for this, it's just what happens.
@teranentwii
Oh boy, this ain't gonna go well for me. :D
Ages I did things:
- Kissed: 35
- Dated: 35
- Drank: 1 (giving beer to babies was a thing in the 80s), but also 18
- Smoked/vaped: no
- Had sex: 35
- Cut class: 18
- Used drugs: no
- Got first piercing: no
@Jarvvitch
One of the biggest lessons that I wish I had learned early in life instead of well into adulthood: Devoting effort to a thing/skill consistently over a long period of time is how ANYTHING worthwhile happens. Other aspects help, but consistent effort trumps everything else.
@imnotsue_art
I've been tracking this person's scams for the last few months. It's... Bad.
Here's the information that I've compiled. If you'd like, you may contact me here or on Telegram (JayEnfield) to add your story to the body of evidence.
@vincehooves
Not just this con. When stuff like this blows up it can reflect badly on EVERY furry con applying to every venue. And given the number of re-tweets on the video it seems like we're rather determined to make sure that happens.
@jellybeepin
@KikiDoodleTweet
I've only been a "professional furry" for a few years now, and I definitely get the whole imposter syndrome thing. I ran into a little mantra that REALLY helps me with it, though, by illustrating the absurdity of it:
"Are you even good enough to have imposter syndrome?"
@AstrosWorld707
@DannyDeMitzo
Spoken like someone who has never attended furry convention staff meetings. Maintaining a relationship with a venue is literally THE hardest and most stressful part of running most conventions (recruiting and retaining enough volunteers definitely gets a mention too though).
@macchiadoe
I call it "doggification", and once you're looking for it, it is absolutely EVERYWHERE, not just in furry art. The characters you see in movies and ads suffer from it. Chu had something to say on this topic awhile ago:
@Tirrelous
@RuffleMcfluffle
I only saw you at BLFC for like 3 seconds. By the time I realized it was you, you were gone and I was stuck at my booth. Definitely wanted to compliment your work in person, but shall save that for another day. ;)
@teelatauntaun
@PatrickSnowyote
If you have information about who made the decisions on this one, I'm interested. At this point in time, I don't know yet who fucked up what. If that info is available, point the way.
@kitsune257
Of course, then you have the opposite of this, where a border crossing official asks you what you're coming into the country for. You tell him that you're visiting your friend of many years for a week. They ask for that friend's name. You... Have no fucking idea...
@roughtess
@Adabear_Art
I went Milwaukee, while everyone else in my workplace went Makita. I spent so much time fucking around with warranties when mine would get the Whine Of Death. Very embarassing, and I'm not even invested in the brand or anything. "Shoulda gone Makita." "Yeah, apparently."
@MoxuanZhang
The dog paws are all great and I really like how seriously the owl talons were treated, but how about a 5-toed caniforme such as a red panda or raccoon or skunk?
@1Kerl3
@viixenpiixen
@DannyDeMitzo
You don't think it would "hurt" thousands of us if the hotel chain reacts with a "no furry conventions at our venues" policy? It's up to us to stop each other from doing stupid shit like this, or our conventions disappear.
