@NASSSport scholars: Here's my experience teaching "Sport, recreation, and settler colonialism" in the past couple of years. Sharing so that others teaching/wanting to teach similar courses can borrow/adapt/critique/etc. (Not to suggest that I've got this all figured out!) 1/22

I am deeply honored and humbled to share that I have been named a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Indigenous Resiliency at the University of Lethbridge. This incredible opportunity reflects the unwavering support and guidance I’ve received from mentors, Elders, colleagues,

Myself, Ketra, & Risa are quoted @AP “Like some of its players, the WNBA’s fan base also holds fluid gender identities, plus companies may underestimate how much consumers with different identities admire and relate to LGBTQ+ players, Keaton said https://t.co/I36imlRaqn

The WNBA has wrapped up a historic season that notched all-time viewership and attendance records while racking up brand deals and corporate sponsorships for its players along the way.

TIL that my former PhD supervisor has been emailing my university complaining about my public anti-genocide, anti-apartheid, anti-occupation stance. Let me be very clear: I simply won’t be intimidated off this stance under any circumstances by anyone.
I cut all ties with my PhD supervisor in August 2023 because of an increasing trend of behavior I vehemently disagreed with — something I struggled with even as a grad student. Little did I know how much worse it would get and how low it could go.

This was Palestine’s first ever flag bearer at the Olympics, Majed Abu Maraheel, in Atlanta ‘96. Abu Maraheel was killed in Gaza last month. Unable to receive adequate care at Gaza’s destroyed hospitals, he died of kidney failure. These killings don’t figure in the death toll.
Palestine flag-bearers at the Paris 2024 Olympics 🇵🇸 24-year-old swimmer Valerie Tarazi, whose family is originally from Gaza. Top medalist at the 2023 Arab Games. 20-year-old Waseem Abu Sal from Ramallah, the first Palestinian boxer to ever compete at the Olympics.

We’re not empathy starved. The whole world empathizes with us. Our people are literally starving. We don’t need Kamala’s nice tone. We need her to open borders to allow food, we need her to stop sending weapons, we need her to end military aid. Also don’t speak for us.
In the speech, Kamala adopts a firm tone when discussing Netanyahu. She heavily implies she understands he's been a key obstacle to a deal. But she communicates empathy w & frustration at civilian suffering on both sides. Palestinians have been empathy-starved, so this matters.

Historically candidates do less than they promise once in office. In this case, we haven’t yet gotten any material promises…
