New Britain rails also stalked our camera traps. We don't even know for sure whether these birds can fly or not. #rails.📷Jason Gregg

Sad news. Was always a dream of mine to write for National Geographic. Now they're Disney and self destructing.

Nat Geo cut *even more* talented editors today, some of the best folks I had the pleasure of working with. In just two years, EIC Nathan Lump & Disney have axed ~80% of its text people — most of the editors & all writers. Feels like the end.

There are no rain delays during seabird flight training. In preparation of fledging, thousands of young Laysan albatross, or mōlī, simulated flying during a rain shower at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge last week.

Hoping to succeed where past attempts have failed, scientists will reintroduce the clever corvid to the wild on a new island—a high-stakes conservation effort that requires a careful balancing act.
