I understand Jeff's point here, but there's a subtly missing... a SOV's still required when people who don't know each other transact now & spend later. Additionally, I may not need a million dollars for retirement under a deflationary system, but I still need a store of value.

Rant. I see many posts generalizing about what “Canadians” think or do. The Canadian population isn’t a hive mind any more than the American population is. You may wish to consider the idea that broad generalizations are truly a signature of low intelligence.
