Time is of the essence when it comes to climate change. So it makes sense to wonder "how long it takes to build an NPP?" when hearing that nuclear is a climate change solution. Check out this week's #JustAsk to find out! #Atoms4Climate
How long does it take to build a nuclear power plant? It’s not overnight — but it’s worth the wait. #Atoms4Climate #JustAsk

This network holds the 🌍's largest and most comprehensive collection of isotope data on water from our atmosphere. Scientists and policymakers use its data to help them understand and protect the world's vital water resources. https://t.co/6yQdYpUPJZ

The energy transition requires greater investment in nuclear if we are to achieve net-zero. Nuclear has the capacity to support renewables, when need be, while emitting minimal CO2. How minimal? Between 5.1-6.4 g/kWh(e) over a plant's lifetime. That's >100 times lower than coal!
With electricity demand in developing countries expected to more than double by 2030, we have launched a new partnership with the @WorldBank to support the safe, secure and responsible use of nuclear energy for their clean energy future. https://t.co/6ABneIx8nS

In short, it seems to be a systematic breakdown of power for an employer to decide the legal opportunity for their employees to unionize, where they can work after moving on, and what volunteer activities they can do outside of work. Odd way to suppress workers' rights.

Both Senators have plausible deniability for their bills being retaliation against staffers' efforts to unionize. However, it is hard to deny that, at least for SB-573, its submission doesn't have a slight tone of malice towards capitol staffers.

SB-251's author (Sen. Josh Newman) voted in favor of AB-1577 last legislative session, and SB-573's author (Sen. Aisha Wahab) was only first elected in 2022.

What I don't understand is why the Senate is now using it to target their own staffers? Is it a response to staffers' renewed efforts to pass legislation allowing them to unionize? AB-1577 passed the Senate last year but failed in the Assembly.

Both are amendments to the Political Reform Act of 1974. A voter-passed ballot initiative (Prop 9) that fortified campaign finance reform in California. Since 1974, PRA has been strengthened numerous times both by voters and the legislature.

That bill was watered down considerably & now only committee consultants are restricted from holding lobbying jobs for 1 year after leaving.
