Can we get public legal representation for tenants in rent court? NYC does it and it pays for itself out of decreased costs of homelessness.

There are bad actors who will take advantage of the moratorium. However, there is an assistance program we have for 6-months in Baltimore. The Federal package that’s coming will provide more relief.
As I sat to memorialize the 150+ people lost in Baltimore this year because of homelessness, a landlord emailed me from his 1/4 million+ dollar 1/4 acre on a county cul de sac, seeking assistance evicting a resident in my district, in winter, in a pandemic.
Hard pass.

Again, I recognize there are bad actors. We all deserve to be made whole. We have a program to assist and you can submit the contact information for tenants with past due balances here:

Would it be prudent to look at each case factually and not make broad statements. Not everyone was impacted in the same way by Covid and to take advantage of moratoriums to protect those that were is morally corrupt and unfair to landlords.
@JamesTorrenceJD
Some horrible tenants are playing the law! They are capable to pay rent by rejecting to do so. Some are doing this way to save money to buy a house! This robbery!
@JamesTorrenceJD
This statement makes me sick! You are buying votes from numerous tenants by sacrificing the interests of landlords, law and order, and normal business!
