Worth noting from the Civil War era, if not before, until the 1980s, Presidents had no power to appoint interim US Attorneys (but could dismiss them). Congress delegated that to the district courts, under the Art II caveat. Strom Thurmond spearheaded the effort to change that.

Each of these states has a nominally bipartisan redistricting commission. It's possible for Dems in these states to override these commissions, but doing so basically guts the argument for establishing such commissions as bulwarks *against* gerrymandering anywhere else.

I get the need to be realistic about what public transit can and can't do, but crapping on it b/c you hate trains and buses is just silly. When the sprawlopolis of Atlanta can find a way to connect a football stadium to heavy rail, it's time to rethink an argument like that.

Atlanta also found a way to build Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Phillips/State Farm Arena near the same MARTA stop when the Omni and Georgia Dome had to be torn down.
