A member of the state champion Escanaba Eskymos has signed a National Letter of Intent to play college softball. Taylor Gauthier signed Monday to play with the University of Detroit-Mercy, a NCAA Division-1 school fro the Horizon League. She plans to study Sports Medicine at UDM.

BREAKING NEWS: First Upper Peninsula coronavirus case confirmed in the Sault Ste. Marie area. The man is now hospitalized in isolation (not in Chippewa County), according to the Chippewa County Health Department. An investigation is under way to see who he was in contact with.

The Escanaba High School Gym will be receiving a upgrade this summer. It will include a new floor with a darker-stained area inside the three-point line. There will be new lights put in as well. The Escanaba Fan Club is donating $30,000 and Meijer is donating $3,700. So Sweet!!!

Jake Mayon ran 25 times for 94 yards and a TD today. Mayon already has the NMU record for career rushing yards, and today he broke the single-season record that was set by Nelson Edmunds in 1991. Mayon ended up with 1,503 yards this season, and 4,220 career yards. @NMU_Football

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announces the Upper Peninsula can reopen bars and restaurants with limited seating as of Friday at 12:01 am. The UP will move to Phase Four of the state’s plan for reopening. Northern lower Michigan can also reopen. Mote testing coming as well up here.
