When I taught students in the sciences, I often told them to unlearn much of the writing they’d been taught in humanities courses since high school. That style is built to signal erudition - flaunting obscure vocabulary, esoteric Latin phrases, and unusual word orders to make the

OK so the Bad Guys are right-wingers. And it has to be said: being an outright leftist is the safest thing you can do in academia and academic-adjacent work. I also wonder what politics @AntigoneJournal supports that desires for people to not exist (!)?

IT HAPPENED TO ME: I won a Classical Philology contest and was then seduced into far right ideology. Or far left. Uh. The bad guys. The bad guys want me to be a philologist.

@WisebloodBooks exists through a combination of persistence and Providence. The persistence is one of the ways in which we work with Providence. Even when things have seemed overwhelming, impossible, or bleak, Wiseblood has tenaciously held onto the belief that there must be a

If you're on the fence, you should go. I'm not going to say that going will help you get a publishable book, but I took sections of my manuscript to work on under some excellent tutelage, and wouldn't you know but it's getting published in 2026.

Like most of us, rejection letters are a fact of life. Some express regret. Others give reasons (in my latest, it was a distaste for enjambment). James Matthew Wilson is different. He showed me flaws. He let me tinker. The result is the best poem I’ve ever written. Thank you JMW.

Never, ever, ever let these people use even the fairest criticisms of Trump to make you forget how horrendously they lied to the country & mismanaged its governance. The American people were right to be aghast at the Democrats after 4 years of Biden.

This kind of post really illustrates the ambiguity between genuine outrage and pure grift. If you live on twitter, you will only know what twitter tells you. If you claim authority and exercise influence, you should actually read things. My Lord.

I have just now learned that the entire “Hands up, don’t shoot!” line from the Michael Brown case was completely fabricated. It literally never happened. He never had his hands up. He never said “Don’t shoot.” The entire thing was a lie… …I had no idea
