I've found this to be true in spades. The chat interfaces themselves are solutions built on top of the model APIs. Most problems require a solution that isn't part of the chat paradigm.
its actually crazy how good the user experience is for llm's if you do not use the chat interface, and instead only rely on the API. sequential messages are a very unnatural way to interact with scalable intelligence.

Btw my personal evals are very much not scientific. But they also aren't just vibes either. It's somewhere in between. I'd maybe describe it as more vibes+ or vibes++.

The gpt-5 api is definitely better than 4o/4.1 on all of my personal evals. But one thing I really like with gpt-5 is the structureless function calling. It's so much easier to expose tools that are essentially bash scripts or terminal commands. Very useful.
