My third dissertation paper is finally online! 🎉 I’m incredibly grateful to my supervisor Michael Smolka and my amazing co-authors Anja Kräplin, Maria Waltmann and @an_reiter only for their contributions but for never letting go of this project.

We investigated the development of probabilistic reversal learning (PReL) in 143 adolescents (ages 14, 16, and 18) using computational modeling and fMRI. PReL performance improved with age, driven...

Key takeaway in a content-related nutshell: As adolescents develop, we see improvements in reversal learning, driven by increases in learning rates and reward sensitivity. Our study found minor associations between low-risk drinking and related neurocognitive processes.

Key takeaway in a methodological nutshell: Computational & longitudinal modeling is complex! We need the right data—like well-designed fMRI tasks—suited to the analysis we aim to perform.

Out now in @ACERjournal: Associations of delay discounting and drinking trajectories from ages 14 to 22..Special thanks to @TMadhyastha for her support in setting up a fancy voxelwise LGM analysis during the revision.

In a longitudinal study, we investigated adolescents from age 14 to 22 to clarify whether drinking is a cause or a consequence of delay discounting (DD), both measured by questionnaires. A subsample...

We just received a rejection. Besides many reasonable comments, which I would be happy to address, we got this: "The primary weaknesses with the study and manuscript in their current form is very a small effect size for the primary results." .I am lost for words.

Definitely worth a read! Thank you @IrisProff for the opportunity to talk about our work on fMRI reliability!.

Can functional brain scans transform psychiatry? . Or are they too unreliable to tell us anything about the individual? I asked 7 passionate neuroscientists with 7 different opinions. In short: they might - if we reconsider how we look at the brain.

It took me some days because of a little human being. But I am proud and thankful that my first first-author paper is finally online @NeuroImage_EiC. Thanks to my co-authors (@glassybrain) and special thanks to Nils @cornu_copiae who taught me a lot and initiated the project.

Can you rely on your favorite fMRI task for prediction or classification? We (w/ @JHFroehner @glassybrain) show that the parametric value contrast in a delay disc task is not reliable, but the offer con is. Paper+fmreli TB are out now @NeuroImage_EiC.
