An incredible opportunity for all MIT postdocs across the life sciences!

While it's easy for us to complain nonstop....we can better channel that energy to create solutions to improve our training in general science communication. One way would be to hold refresher courses for trainees and PIs as we normally do for ethics. Love to hear other ideas!

If you present your work to a scientific audience outside your niche without putting in the due diligence for others to understand the rationale, methods and conclusion....then there's no way on earth someone outside of science will be able to understand it.

At times I feel we place too much emphasis on evaluating each other based on how 'cutting edge' our work is or how many papers we publish, while losing sight of what really matters-how well we communicate our research and how well others can understand it.

I am deeply ashamed and embarrassed that our top leaders and influencers continue to gaslight an issue that has forever  been plaguing the United States of America.  #GETRIDOFTHEFUCKINGGUNS

Mainstream media should also be ashamed of themselves by calling the event an act of 'political violence'. How about showing some respect to your audience, and the two bystanders who were sadly killed, by just calling it plain 'violence' ? 4/n

How can we unite our nation after this shooting? How can we protect prominent political figures and people of the free world from future shootings? The answer by now should be obvious, yet politicians on both sides continue to fail us with each shooting this country suffers. 3/n

People who are calling the assassination attempt  'staged',  scrutinizing the rally's security by the secret service, or wondering if the shooter was Republican or Democrat, are not interested in uniting Americans. 2/n

This life of science is already so hard. There’s struggles and heartache, and sacrifice, and it doesn’t always pay off the way we think. When you do achieve success don’t forget those struggles. Look at others. And choose kindness.

My science thought of the day: If you have an intriguing hypothesis that you rigorously test, but ends up being a negative result, don't shit on yourself. You still learned something.

What is the point of having "requirements" or "mandates" when enforcers are ignoring the rules and breaking the rules themselves? 3/n.

While I question the need of wearing a mask in largely vaccinated areas, I am okay with erring on the side of caution to protect my self and others. Not everyone will agree with me and thats okay. The bigger issue is this 2/n:

Is it me, or is saying "Equal amounts of Buffer A and Buffer B were mixed" not an acceptable description for a materials and methods section in a paper. I want to know the damn volumes.
