2022 was pretty special for me: it was likely the only two-book-year of my life 🎉. 📔 #1, from May: Making Better Lives, on my research with people experiencing homelessness in Paris and how they survive despite structural exclusion .(discount: BBAUTH):

A welcome set of (partly unexpected) allies in the attack on everything that’s slowly made the world a little more equal….
Mark’s position is the right one… we can have a meritocracy WHILE trying to make society more just — and a diversity of experiences and perspectives is obviously a win in most business cases.

Fantastic to hear @rachelcoldicutt in a panel on tech during #50yearswomenatKings @Kings_College talk about the influence of money & power; we need to address finance, VC and capital rather than just technology when discussing e.g. AI (bonus point: @rebeccaelove next to her).

@CalAnthro library is invaluable— it’s where students learn so many things, including how to challenge the very corporate order that’s threatening to close it. Cheering for the occupiers. I wrote about their cause in @ChronicleReview

The VC market is still calm - giving investors time to do due diligence. In a new column for @ImpactAlpha, @hkleach and I argue that ESG is a good tool to prevent a new wave of hype, e.g. around AI. As the SEC is starting to clamp down on VCs, the imperative grows stronger!.
#ESG in VC. If in 2022 tech private markets were defined by the crash of some of the highest-valued and hyped companies, “2023 will be a year of recalibration,” write #VentureESG’s @JFLenhard and @hkleach in @ImpactAlpha.

New Piece by @hkleach and myself: .ESG is here to stay, and Europe is driving the crowd. Let's learn from last years crises, losses and defaults and do some more due diligence, shall we?.

Trying to wrap my head around the US; today: women’s rights. This summary map in today’s @nytimes about abortion bans by state makes me angry. What world do we live in if this is what the most powerful country’s Supreme Court produces? Who can we trust?

Slightly belatedly -- but I'm here now @nyu_ipk to escape the meetings of London and have a very boring routine again, writing my book (and reading). Hit me up if you are in NYC; I will need some coffee regularly roaming the streets of downtown NYC.

What I liked most: Coles focuses on the influence poverty has on shrinking people’s choice and comprehensively shows us the results: . Sexism, racism, homophobia, rape and the constant everyday struggle, esp of women. My 📖#2 this year and another highly recommend! 3/.

I hadn’t heard about St John’s in Newfoundland - but @MeganGColes book paints the bleakest picture of Canada’s very East. Under the all-encompassing shadow of poverty, human (self)deception and the ‘normal’ complexity of relationships are aggravated to a dramatic extent 1/
