I don’t believe in any other “common good” politically than that other people need to leave me alone and respect my rights, and a government should make that happen. “Common good” is a conceptual trap.

Good. Because there is no such thing as the "public good" - there is only the good of some by forcibly sacrificing others to them. Both fascists and communists know this but hold that ends justify means. Or, as Stalin reportedly said, "You have to break eggs to make omelets."
