If you want to learn a lot about Moldova and its current challenges, the IDIS think tank has a comprehensive list of Moldova's top 100 challenges in 2024, spanning the economy, education, foreign policy, and so on. You can read the (300-page!) report here: https://t.co/zYLDGNBnwY

This shouldn't be party political - everyone can see the failings. It doesn't need to be a Mani Pulite style societal reckoning, just an acknowledgement of the challenges faced and genuine action to remedy it.

Their big plans quickly get disregarded or pushed to the side of the road. It is hard to see how 10 years on from Colectiv and 5 years on from Covid-19 how Romania will handle a repeat of these incidents, should they occur. That isn't just poor, it is a failing of the state.

Yes, the PSD hasn't been in govt for the entirety of the period - but that doesn't absolve a complete failure of elites to disregard politics in pursuit of improving health facilities and outcomes. The constant changing of health ministers is a big part of this.

Ten years on from Colectiv, a lack of adequate burn facilities remains. This has been shown numerous times, including after the explosion at Crevedia in 2023. It is little wonder, with political figures making remarks like this: https://t.co/foOkz4fgM7

Similarly, if anyone knows of any research relating to the effects of UK medical students going to Romania, Bulgaria or elsewhere in CEE, please let me know!

This is going to be an interesting challenge for NHS workforce in a few years - with difficulties in specialist training places as it is, how will it handle a growing cohort that are studying abroad and likely looking to return? https://t.co/fnwkftifP2

Peia: "I have the impression that when your mother was pregnant with you she took too much paracetamol" Perhaps its time to change the old adage to reflect recent political trends: "When America sneezes, Romania catches a cold".

Something distinctly painful about seeing British MPs discussing separation of powers and three equal branches. The Americanisation of our politics seems inescapable with elected members using such phrases.
The very idea of politically appointing the judiciary is utterly ridiculous. It undermines our very democracy. Political power should be divided among three distinct branches of government—legislative, executive, and judicial. Separation of powers is a very important maxim.

In the context of centuries of Romanian-Hungarian tensions the phenomenon of "WTF how is it the Romanians are doing better than us??" is an underestimated dimension of Hungarian and wider CEE politics.

With that in mind, Costiuc is doing well, and may enter parliament. Already outperforming expectations, will be an interesting one to follow.

AUR's Moldovan branch not having a great night thus far. At the time of posting, only 38 votes in Romania, 0 in the UK, and not even 1300 in Moldova itself. Whilst the party polls well in Romania on an ostensibly pro-unification platform, it doesn't transfer over to Moldova.

PAS on 88% in Romanian polling stations so far, compared to just 2% for the Patriotic Bloc. Interestingly, with half of the polling stations reported in Germany, the Patriotic Bloc is polling lower than PPDA.

Diaspora falling very, very heavily for PAS currently, and over 50% in Chișinău. Overall, looks like a strong night for PAS.

For PAS to get 30%+ in Transnistria... How long until a pro-EU party gets the biggest success there?

Durov claiming yet again that French intelligence asked for censorship of opposition in Moldova. Almost word for word the Romania post again. What a strange coincidence.
