Whatever the reason for this veto — whether it’s dunking on a critic or whether it’s what Hochul said in her memo that agencies don’t have the resources to enforce — New Yorkers are always, always worse off by having less access to information about their government.
Hochul vetoed this bill. It would've enacted more-stringent deadlines for fulfilling open-records requests. As @NickReisman noted, it was one of a handful of bills she vetoed today -- all sponsored by Sen Skoufis, who ratcheted up his criticism of Hochul this year.

Great work via @Charlie_Reports and @SeanMickey7. Read the whole thing, the details are crazy. Granville’s big bust of 2020 went bust due to his lawlessness. https://t.co/01p1IvPTOl

A crazy new story out today re: Sheriff’s chief DJ Granville: In 2020, Granville led an illegal search of an East Side home that ultimately uncovered drugs & guns. Charges against an alleged drug dealer were later tossed as a result. https://t.co/01p1IvQrDT

More out of the Cuyahoga County Jail: over a one-year period there were 334 work orders placed for malfunctioning or unusable showers, including clogged drains and black mold. One woman told me she had to clean the bathroom with menstrual pads.

Understaffing, outdated facilities and poor management have led to filthy conditions in jails in St. Louis, Cleveland and Hinds County, Mississippi.

I spent the past few months reporting a profile of @ZohranKMamdani trying to answer two questions: 1) Who is this guy? 2) How does he fit into NYC history? Here's what I found (it's long, sorry): https://t.co/atFk4uINxc

The thirty-three-year-old socialist is rewriting the rules of New York politics. Can he transform the city as mayor?

Per the article: The goal is to go after, in part, nonprofit orgs the WH finds objectionable, have the IRS investigate them and then strip them of their nonprofit status.
The Trump administration is preparing a crackdown on liberal political groups — including the funding arm of the Democratic Party — that will utilize the FBI, DHS, IRS and Treasury and Justice departments

The AP fired Emily Wilder years ago after a crybully smear campaign, because she was an activist in college and she called Ben Shapiro a turd in the student paper. Now she’s getting arrested by the IDF for reporting on the flotilla. Please keep telling me how brave Bari Weiss is
My friend and Jewish American reporter Emily Wilder (@vv1lder) was detained by the Israeli military last night while sailing with the Gaza flotilla reporting for @JewishCurrents. Please help our friend get home safely and call her US reps. https://t.co/o1iEHJ7kOx

After former CEO Henry Wojtaszek hired his son last year, Brown put in place a reform saying jobs had to be first offered internally and then posted publicly. That didn’t happen here. OTB says Brown was not involved in the hiring. https://t.co/cMmX1dZZ3k

Western Regional OTB. recently hired Michael Austin, brother-in-law of President and CEO Byron Brown. The hiring may violate OTB policy.

New: Western OTB has hired CEO Byron Brown’s brother-in-law. Michael Austin, brother of the ex-mayor’s wife, began working as a sergeant supervising security guards last month. Job pays $24/hr. The job was not posted publicly before Austin was hired. https://t.co/cMmX1dZZ3k

According to Professor Lay’s research, a majority of KKK members in Buffalo were members of the Republican Party. Members worked in conjunction with the Erie Co. DA at times. General meetings were held on the West Side. HQ was located inside the Calumet Building on Chippewa.

I feel like this is an essential point re: Bari Weiss & CBS. Has she ever in her career produced a piece of reporting that would warrant her ascension to being an editor-in-chief? And no, interviewing Joe Rogan about the "intellectual dark web" doesn't count...
Not trying to gatekeep but I think it’s actually a really essential sleight-of-hand here: Bari Weiss is NOT a reporter. She has never done any reporting in her life and is only a “journalist” in the expanded definition that includes “opinion journalist”. She, like me, is a pundit

In early 1922, word spread of the KKK’s presence in Buffalo. The newspapers, mayor, police chief and other civic leaders all denounced the organization. It hardly mattered. At a massive cross burning off of Harlem Road, the KKK initiated 800 recruits on October 25, 1922.

A great report on an epic failure: Buffalo’s Housing Court: Fewer fines, lax collections: https://t.co/P2tTRm7zam via @ipostnews

Buffalo is collecting fewer than 10% of fines imposed by its Housing Court and new judge is imposing far fewer fines than his predecessor.

It's not that Douglas Jemal is giving up on the Queen City, where he still has significant holdings that he hopes to develop. But as he struggles financially and is strapped for cash, he's no longer...

Choose your fighter: Is Buffalo a struggling city because the banks are tight fisted & loathe to loan cash, or because everyone has a “doom and gloom” attitude?

Trump’s crackdown on immigrants with no criminal histories has led to bad overcrowding at the Western NY ICE detention center. Some migrants sleep on the ground. Majority of those detained have no criminal history. I got the numbers: https://t.co/YRBvATTxzC
investigativepost.org
The ICE detention center in Batavia, New York, has been over its 650-bed capacity for months, a result of Trump's immigration crackdown.

I've read press releases more convincing than this. Apparently Rolling Stone is in its "you can pay us for a positive review" era.

For whatever reason, WBEN continues to celebrate the the decline of local media. Weird behavior imo. Shouldn't local news outlets want healthy competition?

Via Harvard researchers, we also now, finally, have an accurate count of how many migrants are held in solitary confinement. ICE previously underreported the real number. Monthly, 50-69 have been held in solitary this year, among the most in the nation: https://t.co/YRBvATU5pa
