The Chinese rocket Chang Zheng 3B No. Y67 was launched on 2019 Dec 16 to put two Beidou sats in orbit; it reentered at 1120 UTC over the Cape Canaveral region
This was a for real oh sh!t moment. I initially thought just a jet contrail but then--it started breaking up into dozens of flaming objects. My mind was racing--jet explosion, missile, ICMBs, nah has to be a deorbiting satellite right? Never heard a noise or bomb. just literary

Thereβs something strangely amusing about the way Rocket Lab is taking about its ESCAPADE spacecraft being launched, without saying who will be launching them. While Blue Origin talk about launching ESCAPADE without mention who built them.

We are literally looking at a "The Day After Tomorrow" situation in Florida on Tuesday! I have my falling iguana helmet and flame thrower ready to fight this unholy cold and will not retreat to Key West under any circumstances! We can beat this fellow Floridians! Godspeed!

The Jacklyn Landing Platform Vessel appears to have arrived at the LZ for the ESCAPADE mission. The barge is positoned ~598km downrange. Good luck New Glenn! Can't wait to see this return to Port. π€

The Blue Origin launch support vessels - tug Harvey Stone and Landing Platform Vessel 1 (Jacklyn) - have stopped in the center of the racetrack station keeping pattern they were following earlier this morning. Is this the LZ for the upcoming New Glenn launch (NG-2)? Or nah?π€π»πβ΄οΈ

No update from China's human spaceflight agency on the possible debris impact on the Shenzhou-20 spacecraft. Insiders on weibo suggest a decision soon, which will be very much safety first. We could see Shenzhou-22 launching without crew, and the 3 SZ-20 astros returning on SZ-21
China's human spaceflight agency stated today that the Shenzhou-20 crew spacecraft may have been struck by a small piece of debris. Impact analysis and risk assessment are underway, delaying the crew's return to Earth, originally scheduled for Nov. 5. https://t.co/AOHaO0NaX6

Update from @Marco_Langbroek that this was likely the reentry of a Chinese upper stage rocket, but check those Taurid Fireballs out over the next week anyway! πππ»

The fireball from this morning was almost certainly reentry of a Chinese upper stage rocket. Dr. Langbroek is on the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of Delft Technical University in the Netherlands. π π

For every polar bear who strikes it rich in soft drink advertising, there are dozens back home in the Arctic living in dilapidated housing.

The Southern Taurids peaked November 5, during the full moon period, but the Northern Taurids will peak November 11 in βhalf moonβ phase with better viewing. The Southern Taurids originated from Comet Encke, while the Northern Taurids originated from the asteroid 2004 TG10.

The version George sent me by message was low res. Here is a screenshot of the video on Facebook from his post to the Merritt Island Community News & Info group.

Quite a fireball (or falling space debris) about 6:15 this morning traveling NW to SE from Merritt Island, Florida. With the Taurid Fireballs just past peak, this could be from from the North Taurid Fireball cluster at 280 Β°, but anyone know? (Source: FB user George Shroeder.) βοΈ

The Blue Origin launch support vessels Harvey Stone & Landing Platform Vessel 1 (Jacklyn) began a racetrack holding pattern at 4 knots about 323 miles downrange at roughly 6 AM this morning. This is 100 degrees ESE of LC-36, and is within the Hazard Area B zone for launch. π€π»πβ΄οΈ

The long-legged, graceful Great Egrets in the Florida Keys are also terrific hunters. In addition to their wading in the shallows for fish and crabs, they stalk all manner of small lizards, snakes and even smallish rats in the scrub. Ferocious predators, but very pretty! πͺπ¦
