Going on the down angle contact isn’t the problem here. In fact, it’s 100% the right play as the tying run with 1-out. The runner at 3B doesn’t have time to read the direction/speed of the grounder. The problem is he didn’t stay in the rundown long enough to get the batter to 2B.
