I launched Zoom today, and I was dismayed to see they've added a mail feature. This is a classic example of kitchen-sink product development, and it's not a good thing. First, I find it hard to believe that their customers were saying "I'll stop using Zoom today unless you add a

We talk about the importance of Design Engineers, Designers Who Code, Product Engineers… but it all boils down to having a tight team of people who cares about what they ship, end to end. This requires nurturing certain skills that go beyond your own role.

ā€œNurses are bad at using technologyā€ is a terrible framing in healthcare tech. More accurate: Nurses are too busy doing their jobs to deal with complexity in every one of the dozens of UIs they have to deal with.

Say you have a friend that wants to improve their skills with design systems. What’s the first book would you recommend? Caveat: you CAN’T recommend a book that’s specifically about design systems. It must be about a different skill that will help them in design system work.

Hoping to lean on twitter #hivemind šŸ¤”Anyone used a good tool for sharing books (about research + design, think: Interviewing Users, Don’t make me think, Just enough research, etc) with team members around the country. One that pays authors 🄹 And not overly expensive šŸ’³

Recently designers have been talking about calendars. As an individual contributor one thing I’m missing is a way to indicate that meetings have a larger impact on my focus time than just the allotted time. I threw together a quick prototype to concept an idea: ā€œBlast radiusā€

Does anyone in my network have any research / advice / useful reading on principles for writing content when a user doesn’t get the outcome they want. For example, an unsuccessful loan application, ineligibility for a service etc. Shares appreciated #ContentDesign #UXWriting

"Thinking big" is a principle you'll hear from leaders everywhere, but it's frequently misunderstood to mean "solve every problem for every customer" and inevitably translates into a roadmap full of features. But "lots of features" is the OPPOSITE of thinking big. 1/

We ran the Intro to service design training this week with this lovely cohort of folks from across the UK public sector! My favourite feedback: "the information is super actionable - I'm going to start using it right now" We've launched 2 dates for 2024! https://t.co/OTIhsO0HRA

So nice to be here at #DSDay23 - seeing a lot of familiar faces and hearing about thoughtful design systems work happening across the public sector. I’m currently on the hunt for new clients so if you’re looking for design systems leadership or docs support, come say hello!

Services are an expression of the policy behind them. If the policy is broken, the service won't work either. This the most common cause of new service failure (not poor UX). We *must* make sure we're developing services and policy in tandem.
