Bloody chuffed to say my promotion to Associate Professor has been approved ๐ Here I am in all my colours. Because Iโm living proof itโs not what you look like, itโs what you do and who you are. (Sling for my broken shoulder - because Iโll always be accident prone ๐

When I teach Principal Component Analysis (PCA), I use my interactive dashboard to engage my students. They can observe how, through an orthogonal transformation (rotation) of a two-feature dataset, the variance of the data projected onto one of the components can be maximized.

โI think this discovery reinforces the significance of curiosity-driven research. I didnโt scan this fossil because I had a hypothesis I wanted to test. It was just invigorating, intellectually,โ Friedman says. โThis discovery also shows the importance of museum collections."
Professor Matt Friedman and PhD student Rodrigo Figueroa discovered possibly the world's oldest fish brain in a fossil, revealing new insights into brain evolution. You can read about it in the LSA Magazine Spring 2024 edition at the link below! https://t.co/w4umvv0ks7
