Watch this, and tell me you did not feel something. Football fans in Turkey throw toys down on the field to collect for the children in the earthquake zone. Such a beautiful and heartwrenching scene of love. Such big hearts.
Powerful: After Turkish police breakup
#LasTesis
women’s protest in Istanbul last week+then in nation’s capital of Ankara, women of oppostion parties do protest in parliament—saying they have political immunity to do so—direct anger at Interior Minister.
Israel offered aid to Turkey, and it was not accepted (even if Erdogan did include them in his international message of thanks). Now, Turkey's FM says a Turkish company is renting firefighting planes from an Israeli company So, why not just accept the original aid Israel offered?
The Muharrem Ince Factor: Some estimate 2.5 million are joining Muharrem Ince's rally in Izmir-a CHP stronghold. Lets say it is even half of that, simply mind boggling. Turkey has not seen an election like this in decades.
The iPhone prices in Turkey are absolutely out of this world expensive! The iphone-mini 13 in US is $699 (6,221.1-TL); in Turkey its $1,236 (10,999); For the most expensive iPhone 13pro in US its $1599 (14,231) in Turkey $2584 (22,999) of which $1042 (9,279) goes to state taxes.
Hate for Alevis and other non-traditional Islamic sects runs deep among some. "May the mere memory of Sultan Selim keep your cult from power" is a reference to the massacre of Alevis by Sultan Selim. For a "British-Iraqi" to spread such hate is appalling. Much less a journalist.
Today, following yesterday’s protest in Turkish parliament by opposition women MPs protesting violent breakup of
#LasTesis
marches in Istanbul and nation’s capital of Ankara, women took to streets in Izmir in massive protest—this time police stood aside.
The moment protesters break through barricades in front of Prime Minister's residence. One newscaster calls this by its name, a popular uprising. Tomorrow a nationwide strike is on horizon, joined by universities. The military is more fragile than ever.
Surreal: A young Turkish woman and man make satirical video about how "useless" a Turkish passport is--using it as a bookmark, coaster, oven hot pad. Nationalists decry, save our glorious passport! The two then handcuffed, taken to court, ironically blocked from traveling abroad.
Incredible sight: Thousands of Palestinian citizens in Israel make way on foot to Al-Aqsa after Israeli police blocked their buses. Tonight is the Night of Kadir, one of the holiest nights in Islam. The Israeli police are working hard again to cause chaos.
One of the most shameful acts in US history: Peaceful protesters attacked so President Trump can go in front of a church and hold up a Bible for a photo op, minutes after he calls on the US military to mobolize against American citizens.
Thousands of students at a university festival in Kayseri, in the middle of Anatolia shout in unison: "long live Mustafa Kemal [Ataturk]." For a gov 2 decades in power that wished to replace this ideology with their own, this can't be the expected outcome.
Shocking video coming from the Haram al-Sharif, where Israeli border patrol attacked worshippers tonight, in yet another act of provocation during this month of Ramadan. It seems Netanyahu's police are working extra hard to cause a breakdown. Worrying.
Respect: The Israeli Newspaper Haaretz--whose readers also send their children to fight in Israel's wars--publishes names and photos of the Palestinian children killed by Israel in Gaza. "67 children were killed in Gaza, that is the price of the war." This is unprecedented.
So today the gov started it take over of the High Court and in the same night they decided to show us what a dictatorship looks like. Absolute chaos in Tel Aviv.

song in my opinion 😂 Coronanana...explaining the rules to abide by and much more! Gerçekten harika :)
Turkey's Finance Minister on CNN TURK spreads a conspiracy theory that the US Federal Reserve does not belong to the American public but rather is in the hands of 5 families. Just everyday news on

Watch how an Israeli solider throws a stun grenade into a crowd coming within inches from hitting a little girl. There's not been a single day Palestinians in Jerusalem have been able to enjoy Ramadan this year; everyday there's ruthless attacks on them.
From a Start-up Nation to a Shut-down nation: Israeli protesters take their protest against Netanyahu's judicial coup a notch up, placing him among the likes of Khomeini, Erdogan, Putin, and Orban. This marks eight weeks of massive protests in the streets.
Women protesters violently arrested in Istanbul following protest. It seems the Turkish police have not received word yet of the government's new Human Rights Action Plan unveiled just this week. I am sure things will change once notified.
Just watched an ugly video of a far-right racist burning the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden. He also had police protection. I get the idea of freedom of expression, but this is an outright hate crime. Disgusting, and how does this have anything to do with Nato?
Cok guzel bir fotograf paylasiyorum sizinle: Israil'deki bir ambulansin calisanlari ayni anda dua ediyor. Biri yahudi, digeri ise musluman. Ya hepimiz ya da hicbirimiz.

As Netanyahu calls the Palestinian citizens of Israel an “existential threat,” Palestinian lawmaker Ayman Odeh tweets this photo: After a long day, time to put these three existential threats to bed!
Oh Europe, you shut your doors in the faces of these Syrians and thought money would solve the issue. However, the truth is you buried your heads in sand like Ostriches. Shame on you.
Bazi insanlar yahudi karsitligini Filistin'i savunmakla karistiriyorlar. Bir de ustune bana, bu kisi gibi Hitler'in fotografini gonderiyolar. Ne kadar cirkin ve korkutucu.

: A political Tsunami hits Turkey, with opposition CHP party (in red) making major advances in local elections against Erdogan's AKP (in orange). Tomorrow, I will provide more analysis (article to come), but there is no underestimating how huge it is. Good night for now.
These are not just the words of a leader but of a sincere and good person. Turkey's opp leader Kilicdaroglu speaks at eye-level with Turkey's citizens, sharing about him being an Alevi-a religious minority (and shunned in the past by some conservative Muslims). He has my respect.
Look at this absolutely huge opposition rally in Izmir: even if the city is a CHP stronghold, the massive turnout of thousands upon thousands shows people want change. Impressive. With 2 weeks to go, the Opposition is staying on track, dynamic as ever.
Way back in the 1990s Israeli courts ruled it is not illegal to fly a Palestinian flag inside Israel. However, at any moment it can be confiscated with brutality. Why? The simple answer is it confirms more than anything that there is a Palestinian people.
What strength! Thousands of women protesting in Istanbul against rampant rise in violence against women—with 36 women murdered in July. “These are our lives, decision, streets, squares, rights, women, the Istanbul Convention.”
#istanbulsoezlesmesiniuygula
The stupidity of the Turkish media discussing with a Japanese engineer, asking him, so what do you do to enforce good building codes, what are the legal ramifications. As if Turkish people are unaware of how to deal with criminal contractors. Hitting my head against the wall.
I've covered Turkey for 20 years. Its hard to grasp what's happened tonight. It seems to be a total breakdown of Turkish foreign policy, a domestic issue unlike it, leaving a country sad, angry+confused. And, still fears+chatter of number of soldiers killed rising. Just terrible.
What happens when a Rabbi gets stuck in the snow in Istanbul? He gets saved and taken to a mosque where he prays morning prayer, stressing Jews are free to pray in mosques, not like churches which are forbidden. Why Istanbul? He is in charge of giving kosher licenses for export.
A religious-nationalist. A former staunch secular TV presenter. A former Likud strongman. A Russian-immigrant. A former general. An openly gay man. A Palestinian Islamist. And a staunch feminist. This is Israel's next government.
As we expected: the first ballots open show a huge Erdogan lead. This is the usual; as I stated earlier this will change over the night. It is going to be a long night but we all need to be patient.
In Tel Aviv unbelievable photos of main freeway blocked at 12AM. Protests happening throughout Israel. Netanyahu's firing the Defense Minister is being declared as the blatant attempt to transform the country to a dictatorship. Netanyahu has sparked a fire he has yet to see-huge.
A fascist attack in Izmir on headquarters of the mostly Kurdish, HDP party, leaves one dead. The assailant who is known for being a far-right supporter of Ultra-nationalists, took Deniz Poyraz hostage and later executed her, setting fire to the building. He was taken in custody.
Manchester United fans tell Turkish passengers on Istanbul’s metro to “shut the fuck up,” after some passengers rightfully asked them to quiet down and to stop banging on the train’s ceiling. Too bad these ones ruin it for the many good tourists from the UK enjoying the city.
The Nakba is recognized by plenty of Israeli historians. Denying 750,000 Palestinians were expelled is disgusting. Over 400 villages were demolished, and on top of them, almost 200 Israeli settlements were established. The expulsion and erasure are documented in Israeli archives.
Did you know that at Constitution Hill in South Africa there's a "Palestinian Nakba Memorial Forest" riddled with lies about Israel? Sad that a country that's faced so much racism in the past still perpetuates these lies about Israel.
The US and the EU need to speak up now. Cutting off water and food supplies to a whole civilian population is a crime and cannot be tolerated for a second. Now is the time to stop such actions and put an end to this before it starts.
What they cannot do (or would even dream of doing) to the hundreds of thousands of Israeli-Jewish protesters during the last 12 weeks, they do to Palestinians, as we see in the video from Al-Aqsa Mosque tonight. Shame.
It was outrageous to see posts that misinterpret the video of the 85-year old freed hostage Yocheved Lifshitz's shaking the hand of her armed and masked captor as a sign as somehow as if the hostages were treated well. While in captive she was beaten and she describes it as hell.
This is the picture everyone wanted to see. A united party, a united opposition with open support of the 2 mayors, Istanbul's mayor, Imamoglu, and Ankara's, Yavas. Kilicdaroglu declares "I am the candidate of 84 million." This election will be one we have not seen in decades.
So, now Turkey's exiled crime boss is exposing people connected to gov w/drug smuggling. A country's Interior Minister is literally being trolled by a crime boss and everyday secrets coming out. Millions watching, most agree its better than Netflix. What a poor state of affairs!
It is 1AM in the morning and thousands of people are now protesting outside of the Knesset. The gov is starting to show cracks and Netanyahu his getting pushed to the corner. This could cost him his gov--crucial days ahead. A crisis like no other.
Lessons from Turkey for US voters:
1. Cats cause electric outage when counting ballots
2. Huge Trump victory w/in hour of poll closing (will even out)
3. Trump gives balcony speech before final result
4. If Biden loses he'll disappear for 10 hours
5. A recall if Trump loses Texas

What would the world say if hundreds of skinheads were marching in Berlin, New York, or London, headed for the Jewish neighborhood, shouting "Death to Jews."?
Turkey has turned into a place where Instagram is used for resignations, Twitter is used for confirmation, and Whatsapp is used to learn what really is happening behind the scenes! And, of course, Youtube used to find media folks talking about what no one is talking about on TV!

: This is Tel Aviv, where anti-Netanyahu protesters have joined together keeping the necessary two meters apart from each other. Social distancing can not get cooler than this!
While Israelis fight against Netanyahu's judicial coup, his wife got a haircut in Tel Aviv. Protesters surround the salon, and the police are sent in mass numbers to free her. Seems she thinks her hair is more important than the country falling apart.
Perhaps one of the most frustrating and oppressive administrative regimes I have seen in my life is the process Turkish citizens go to get a visa in Europe. This is nothing new, but getting worse. Good, it is getting attention.
The 2 worlds of Twitter: Palestinians and pro-Palestine groups sharing the photograph of the 16-year-old boy killed by the IDF; and Israelis and pro-Israeli groups sharing the photograph of the 16-year-old boy killed by a bomb in a terror attack-let me share both of them at once.
Turkish citizens globally are voting in huge numbers at local embassies: from New York and London, where people wait hours in line, to here in Dublin, where a line wraps around the building. Unprecedented voting. This a sign that May 14th will be a massive turnout in Turkey.
Trump tells Rashida Tlaib to go back where she came. Now Israel plans to block her entrance, preventing her from visiting her Palestinian homeland+family, due to pressure from Trump. However, lets not forget, Israel regularly blocks Palestinian entrance so this is just not Trump.
My memory did not fail me. In 2010, Turkey sent two Canadair planes to help in international effort to put out Israel's largest fire ever. So of course the question that comes to mind is how Turkey no longer has planes in service against fires. Something really went wrong here.
Israeli Jewish fascists are attacking the homes of Palestinians in the Old City of Jerusalem. All night long Jewish groups have been roaming streets, shouting death to Arabs. Can you imagine the fear?
An organized pogrom took place tonight against Arabs in Bat Yam despite the fact they they all learned about Kristallnacht. Today, in my Haaretz article I wrote, "We need to see, what a blatantly racist society we have become." I wish I had been wrong.
Turkish Airlines breaks a new record. Yesterday they flew 1543 flights with over 260,000 flying in one day, reaching over 87% capacity. Pretty impressive. Checking tickets to come back in late August from Istanbul to NYC, on some flights, there were literally no seats left.
The surreal moment when Israel summons a 5 year-old Palestinian, Mohammed Alayan, to the police station for throwing rocks at Israeli security forces. The Occupation is ugly and absurd.
I share news of Palestinians killed: "You are a traitor."
I share news of Israelis killed: "You support occupiers!"
I believe in the sanctity of life. It's that simple.
I also believe in a just solution to the conflict.
You cannot make me a traitor or hate Palestinians.
The Turkish heroes--the Rescue Team AKUT, pulls out a rabbit from under the rubble. These women and men have been working non-stop for over 24 hours now.
Bravo! The Swedish Muslim who received permission to burn the Jewish Bible only did this to obtain a stage to speak against the burning of holy books! "I'm Muslim, we don't burn [books]-I wanted to show how wrong it is that people don't respect other religions." This made my day!
I condemn Sweden for allowing hate crimes: this time it's not the burning of the Quran but the burning of a Jewish Bible in front of the Israeli Embassy. Frustrating this is being done as a retaliatory attack against the Quran burning. One is Islamophobic the other antisemitic.
I remember in 2014, I myself encountered a store like this in Istanbul. Then I was also attacked by a professor who promised to send me to Treblinka. But I must say, I was also comforted by so many Turkish friends who fight this ugly antisemitism on a daily basis. I thank them ♥️
For those who understand a tad about the history of Turkish politics, one could not have made up this script: CHP die-hards (and a whole country) waiting for an answer from Saadet Party's headquarters with a massive photo of Ataturk waving over Saadet's building.
Rothschild ailesiyle Siyonizm Federasyonu arasindaki telefon gorusmesi: "Kahretsin! Eger Wushu Federasyonu bu turnuvayi kazanirsa dunyayi ele gecirme planimiz suya dusecek!"
Do you remember her? The elderly woman smiling as she was being kidnapped. Some believed she had dementia, others grotesquely mocked her as if she was on a joyride. Tonight she will be reunited with her family, who stated her smile represented her character, strength and resolve.
Israeli police fired stun grenades into the al-Aqsa Mosque, one of the holiest sites in Islam. Tonight we saw one sided escalation by Israel and one can only worry about tomorrow. The world ignored Jerusalem for weeks, now it can no longer close its eyes.
I just received terrible news. A Turkish friend of mine was the subject of a random attack in NYC when she was thrown on the subway tracks into an oncoming train. Emine is a sweet a beautiful person. Here is a GoFund for her. I am still in shock from this.
Ekrem Imamoglu is the man of the day! Here he's at his polling station w/ journalists crammed in trying to get a photo of him, while his supporters cheer him on. He's ran a superb campaign and later this evening we'll see to what extent this has paid off (photo via

I really believe that Turkey's current Foreign Minister will go down in history as being the most unprofessional (and unfit for the job) Turkey has ever had. Here he is trolling Nancy Pelosi and literally begging for Trump to retweet him (or to pat him on the back). Embarrassing.
"Istanbul Cool" is long gone. True, in early 2000s, you could find it in its vibrant art scene and annual Pride march; not one where its very best are exiled or behind bars. Sorry it just does not work. Yes, come to Istanbul, discover it, but not for this.
Great to see thousands of Israelis protesting in Tel Aviv against the new Netanyahu gov, which has declared war on the democratic institutions of the state. Protesters are also marching against the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories.
"Bibi to prison!" shout the protesters. Netanyahu played with fire and has got burnt. They are no longer calling for him just to freeze his judicial coup, he needs to stop all his reforms which will most likely lead to the end of his gov. Netanyahu is scrambling. Hiding at home.
The Palestinian student activist Ruba Asi was released yesterday after 20 months held by the Israeli military and its courts. No civil trial. People can scream to high heavens Israel is a democracy, but ruling over another people w/o basic civil rights sounds more like apartheid.
I get those trying to justify the Palestinian side, however, Hamas has no strategy here. Just chaos with no long-term political goals. Anyway you look at this, it is bad.

I might add that this is Besiktas team, a beautiful gesture of support at their game with Antalya Spor. While I should have put this in the title, I thought it was best to keep the post generic since what they did expresses a whole country supporting the people any way they can.
I wholeheartedly get the protests in Tel Aviv and would certainly take part if I were there. It really is something to see. Yet, their fighting a lost war, and if they can’t connect it to injustices done to Palestinians they will never win. Netanyahu knows this very well.
A Palestinian friend from Gaza checked in with me last week to see if my family was safe following the attacks. Today he wrote to me his family home in Gaza was bombed, with his family fleeing. He fears another Nakba. Strangely enough, we've never met, just console each other.
