When #Cycling's not the right answer, there are other options to augment the power of wheelchairs. They don't come cheap either though 😳!! If you're able to, please consider supporting RoCo's fundraiser so they can move freely around hilly #Sheffield! #ActiveMobility 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
My partner RoCo also uses a manual wheelchair, but Sheffield hills are A LOT. E-motion wheels would give them so much independence and energy back. Unfortunately, life changing tech doesn't come cheap. If you can't donate, sharing also really helps https://t.co/z1rj2ioYw8

Pleased to be at @London_Cycling's AGM. Such impressive advocates for #cyclists in #London! Increasingly concentrating on the groups currently under represented in cycling (women, young people, people on low income, etc.).

Yesterday I received one of the highest and most ancient honors in London, the Freedom of the City. But the celebration soured into an experience of indignity when upon arriving, I found that there was no ramp for me to access the stage. 🧵

Absolutely!!
The thing I find particularly galling in the idea of disabled people having 'less able bodies', is that disabled people are the strongest people, mentally and physically, that I know.

@Wheels4Well Before going to find our Hotel, I made sure to check out the stage for tomorrow morning (was it accessible, as I'd asked?). I can report: it's accessible & rather grand!! 🤩 They took the opportunity to do light checks, so I've already been on the big screen once 😅!

@Wheels4Well Last tweet had pic of train carriage from Brussels to Ghent. Huge flexible space with flipup seats on either sides. No probs keeping handbike on for the 30mins journey (but getting on was scary 😳 very little width to get onto ramp & hubby had to heave me on 🤯. #WinSomeLoseSome

Oh, I must show off my very corporate spoke-guards 😃. @Wheels4Well on tour for sure! No hard earned charity funds were used to produce them though (they were a present from hubby last year) & this is their first outing, @ international Cycling Conference #VeloCity2024!! 🤩 👍👍

Loo not ♿ accessible 😳. Door opens inwards 🤯. If u wheeled in, door between u & loo 🤷🙄. And space by loo too narrow for most ♿ let alone if you needed someone's help to transfer! V lucky I can still walk a few steps with crutch!!

Tricky to know where to stow Handbike. Conductor suggests it goes up 2 steps 😳 in largeish flexible area. Hubby to the rescue again 😅! We chose to leave the stand legs on but worried about it toppling, so our luggage is used to steady it. Next stop #Brussels.

Wow! On longest train I've ever been on 🤪. End of end of platform only just wide enough for (small) ramp! ♿ & I, Hubby & Handbike got on no questions asked 👍 but not doable without hubby (got to use ramp this time).

Having only ever travelled LdN-Paris-LdN I was on automatic pilot in GdN & went to request ramp from upstairs ticket office. Already in EU, so no need for more passport control. Redirected to another help desk, in main station. All good but no 1st class lounge this time 😅.

My trip to #Ghent for #VeloCity2024 restarts after a family weekend nr Paris. With my ♿, my #handbike (& hubby). 🧵 Cycled to RER station & requested assistance on departure & @ Gare du Nord. U got to wait for OK @ other end. Took 1/2hr B4 getting onto train but we're off 🎉.
