As head of the SBA, I met with countless Black entrepreneurs whose grit and determination inspired me to push the agency to deliver record levels of affordable, non-predatory capital. These are the stories, challenges, and opportunities I think about during #BlackHistoryMonth.

America is home to more than 3.5 million Black-owned businesses and startups – and, during the Small Business Boom, those numbers skyrocketed. Today, one in every 10 Black households owns a business, representing a generational surge in Black wealth building opportunity.

So great to see #Grammys2025 lifting up fire-impacted small businesses across Los Angeles. These business owners have been through so much. Let’s cheer them on as they get back on their feet!

We’re clearly not out of the woods on inflation yet. And if the president imposes sweeping tariffs, economists believe prices could shoot up even further — not to mention the potentially catastrophic inflationary effects of mass deportations.

Devastating news in DC as all those involved in last night’s mid-air collision are feared dead — and all this made more painful by the chaos of unfounded political attacks on “DEI.” We have to be better than this. Keeping the victims and their loved ones in my prayers.

The White House is trying to walk back its potentially disastrous pause on all federal spending — which could include loans & grants that help small businesses. These impactful programs are for everyone with an American startup dream. Fear & uncertainty are toxic for Main Street.

As head of @SBAgov, I pushed the agency to be entrepreneurial: to pivot, adapt, & scale. In my last year as administrator, we provided >100,000 financings to businesses & made key changes & investments — all while remaining independent. Small businesses need an independent voice.

Took some time this weekend to reflect on the amazing work of @SBAgov over the last four years. It truly was the privilege of a lifetime to lead this incredible team.

My administration will get right to work distributing emergency aid swiftly and equitably. Our focus will be on the small businesses on Main Street — not those that are wealthy and well-connected.

Our jobs team’s mission is clear: execute the Build Back Better agenda. They will work to dig us out from the worst, most unequal jobs crisis in nearly a century by supporting small businesses and rebuilding the backbone of America — our middle class.

We have to build our economy back better from this pandemic. Small businesses and their employees will be core to our recovery and I will work around the clock to help them re-open and thrive.
