This weeks #ThistleThursdays theme is Great Halls 🏰. Our 'Great Hall' is known as the Armoury Hall because of the impressive 1300 strong display of weaponry and armour on show - designed by the 11th Duke in 1953, last used in warfare at the battle of Culloden. @historic_houses

Our ‘feature Friday’ this week is our secret staircase that goes from the very top of the castle to the basement fosse 🏰. Previously, it would have been used by household staff, and during 2020 it is open to the public on our castle tour!. #FeatureFriday @Historic_Houses

The eerie atmosphere centres on the elaborately carved bed, on which, legend suggests, a young Irish harpist was murdered by the Duke of Montrose’s men in 1644. Legend has it that when the bed was moved to the present castle, his spirit came too!. #FeatureFridays @Historic_Houses
