When I was 8ish we had a home invasion robbery. Our dogs barked and barked. My father yelled at them to shut up so they did. Two men then entered my home, held us at gunpoint while one made a sandwich, pointed a gun at me and told me to go to my room and stay quiet or he’d hurt
Whenever I hear random noises at night, I always look over at the dog to see his reaction. If he ignores them, then I know it's safe. If he’s alert then I go check immediately. Don't ask me why. It's just the way of things.
