Line-up:
Gleðilegt sumar! Yes, today is a national holiday in Iceland, the first day of summer: 'sumardagurinn fyrsti'. The Vikings broke the year into two parts. We're not bothered with the prissy seasons - spring and autumn. No, only the hardcore ones. Summer then winter.
Just three weeks until we convene in Reykjavik for
#IcelandNoir
! Enough time to dust off your suitcase, finish your Icelandic reading, perform a small sacrifice for the elves, and knit your nose protectors. Onwards!
Hello! We're busy prepping for some
#IcelandNoir
2023 line-up announcements...
We loved last year's
#TrappedPanel
and have more film and TV events planned for 2023. Who would you like to see on the line-up?
Tickets on sale now:
Dan Brown and Ragnar at our first fringe event tonight - thanks to all that came down! Join us for dark comedy tomorrow night at The Dubliner from 8pm. All welcome!
@AuthorDanBrown
@ragnarjo
That's right: the festival will take place in Reykjavík on the 20th and 21st of November 2020. Join us for a weekend of murder, mystery and fermented shark 🦈
We can't wait to see you again!
Yrsa, Óskar, Lilja and Ragnar
(and our lovely little assistant Natalía Ragnarsdóttir)
Our favourite slogan of all time. A few years ago Icelandic outdoor clothing company 66°N advertised:
"This is our winter collection. Also known as our summer collection".
Perfectly sums up Icelandic weather. 🌞🌦️🌨️❄️
We're so excited to welcome you all to Reykjavík for Iceland Noir 2021! In light of questions, we can confirm Iceland Noir is going ahead as planned next week. Ticket holders, make sure you check your emails later today for full program & festival information ❄️
Happy
#Bolludagur
, or 'cream bun day'. Today, children across Iceland will be encouraged to spank their parents with a special stick whilst yelling 'bolla, bolla, bolla!'. They'll be rewarded with a cream bun. Such a relief after all the #Þorrablót sheep heads and seal flippers.
More event news!
@OlafurDarri
's film club special with A. J. Finn will return this year.
A. J. will also be interviewing
@RCArmitage
about his debut thriller
#Geneva
, and appearing alongside
@crimebythebook
for an event talking about his own writing.
Today Iceland lifted all Covid restrictions within the country. No masks, no hugging ban, no kissing ban, no limits to gatherings! Woohoo! Get your ticket for Iceland Noir and prepare to set your handrail-licking inner demon free:
Historically, in Jan/Feb in Iceland, all the good food was gone. So what better way to celebrate than by eating the gross, leftover stuff. Introducing Þorrablót - a celebration of cooked heads, fermented testicles and sour seal’s flippers.
Anyone?
Iceland fact* for
#FolkloreThursday
: elves still dwell in Iceland, and are known as huldufólk. Throwing stones is discouraged, to avoid accidentally hitting them.
*Iceland facts are up for debate, but personally I'll die in a ditch for the huldufólk.
Morning! Don’t know about you lot, but the
#IcelandNoir
team were working through the night, plotting, scheming and putting the finishing touches to the programme... WHICH IS ANNOUNCED THIS WEEKEND! 😱

Is Iceland the only place on earth where people name their kids after volcanos? Katla (pictured) and Hekla are two very popular girls names in Iceland...
Although we'd not met any little Eyjafjallajökulls yet.
That’s a wrap folks! It’s been a wonderful weekend, and we cannot wait for

Fun fact on
#IcelandicNationalDay
: In 1809 a loopy guy called Jørgen Jørgensen came to Iceland and announced himself King. Icelanders being quite easy going were ok with this. His reign was short, 8 weeks, but he introduced our first flag, the cod flag of the kingdom of Iceland.
We're thrilled that the excellent and hilarious
@richardosman
and
@MarkBillingham
are appearing together for a very special event at
#IcelandNoir
2022.
See them on Friday the 18th of November. Tickets are on sale now:

@evaaegisdottir

Iceland ‘welcomes’ a new volcano! Now we can finally stop refreshing the news and go back to our regular business. And Yrsa can get back to writing, which she is much better at than photography.
Today Icelandic women are on strike - no work inside or outside the home.
Read the room, world: enough of sexism, gender based violence and the pay gap.
