Not anymore. Back when some publishers only published paperbacks, houses would bind ads into the middle of their books. Famously, Harlan Ellison got so pissed at a publisher for binding cigarette ads into one of his books, he mailed a dead gopher to the publisher's comptroller.

Serling doesn't get enough credit for being as good a writer as he was. At his best, he could stand, ten toes down, with the likes of Reginald Rose and Paddy Chayefsky.
Rod Serling didn't become famous because of The Twilight Zone. That happened on January 12, 1955, when "Patterns," a live teleplay about the cut-throat world of big business, debuted. It earned Serling his first Emmy, was restaged a month later, and made into a movie in 1956.

"By the age of 70, he who doesn’t read will have lived only one life. He who reads will have lived 5000 years. Reading is immortality backwards." Umberto Eco, January 5, 1932 – February 19, 2016.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Read Cory Doctorow's books. They're very good. https://t.co/pnle1m95nZ
