Not anymore. Back when some publishers only published paperbacks, houses would bind ads into the middle of their books. Famously, Harlan Ellison got so pissed at a publisher for binding cigarette ads into one of his books, he mailed a dead gopher to the publisher's comptroller.

Rod Serling didn't become famous because of The Twilight Zone. That happened on January 12, 1955, when "Patterns," a live teleplay about the cut-throat world of big business, debuted. It earned Serling his first Emmy, was restaged a month later, and made into a movie in 1956.

Question: why doesn't every laundromat have one of these? They always have one for soda, one for dryer sheets and detergent, and sometimes one for snacks. Why not one for books?
