Part of me feels like I have never quite finished this play as I have busied myself with other projects. Maybe it is time to finish it.

@NewPlayX But Burton's best known translation work was the first unabridged scholarly English edition of 1,001 NIGHTS which was a major influence on my THE TENTH VOYAGE OF CAPITANO GIANGURGOLO COCCODRILLO FANFARONE MATAMOROS SPAVENTO. (Aloso available on @NewPlayX).

Burton's translation of Giambattista Basile's collection of Neapolitan fairytales, IL PENTAMERONE contained the tale "The Sun, The Moon, and Talia" which I adapted into a play of the same name. (Available on @NewPlayX).

Today marks the birthday of explorer, soldier, scholar. and translator Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890). Two of his translations (though not the only ones I consulted) had an influence on plays of mine.

Also, I have been a fan of Darrow Montgomery's work since I was a teenager, so to have one of my articles paired with his photography is a real treat!.

Some numbers: The unedited transcript was over 4,600 words but my editor asked me to bring it down to 1,200 which made it a real task. As a playwright, I've discovered that ~150 words on the equals a minute of stage time, but our conversation averaged about 170 per minute.
