I have had more than a few "oh shit!" moments when my manager asked that one little question no one else thought of. It takes huge confidence and self assurance to step back and only intervene when its required.

This is such a great thread!!! Best managers I have worked with are super technical but use these chops to represent the team up. The TLs are trusted and relied upon. But the manager was always able to verify or ask the hard questions.
It's nice to have a manager who empathizes with the travails of on call, interruptions, and tech debt, and who can guide you towards opportunities you might not have spotted on your own. Trust is nice, but expert trust is better than blind trust, every day. 💕
